Miles at 70% charge dropped with new update.

I used to get a consistent 269/270 miles when charged to 70%.
With new software update it now is reading 262 miles of range at 70%.

Am I missing something here?
Is there a reason this would happen?

btw, I have a 2025 R1T dual max

Probably due to temperatures and the BMS thinking your capacity has started to degrade? When is the last time you've charged to 100%?

About two weeks ago I charged to 100.

Don’t charge to 100% unless you really need to. Try to live between 20% and 80%. Or better, between 25% and 75% (or even better, 70%) if that doesn’t inconvenience you. That will be the best for your battery.

I don’t mean you should inconvenience yourself but if you don’t need the range, that’s the way to go.

This.ā˜ But allso, if you go a year w/o charging to 100%, maybe is good to do so for a good BMS calibration.

And... like some people state online, the battery is warranted for 8 years or 175k miles... So even if you charge every day to 100%, you should be covered under the warranty, you'll just experience faster degradation.

I saw something similar with this .47 update:

Two week old R1S Tri Max with AT package. Was 497 km at 100%. At the time of the update it was at 387 km / 77%. When it finished installing and rebooted it said the same 387 km but now says 80% instead of 77%. Theoretical 100% charge is now 479 km.

On face value is looks like they blocked off 5kWh at the top so the same voltage is now 80% instead of 77%. Could be something more complicated though.

Bear in mind that the Rivian calculate mileage based on usage as well. So maybe after the upgrade some counter resetted and now it's giving a different number until it relearns usage patterns.

This can actually be manually resetted from the Charge menu.

If it changed the mileage/efficiency estimate, you would expect it to show a different range number for the same SoC (77%). Whereas here my available range remained exactly the same yet the SoC went up (80%). The battery voltage wouldn’t have changed at all (it was parked for hours) yet now that same voltage equates to a higher % of the max (indicating voltage at 100% is lower).

So on face value it is because there is less total energy available and not because of a change in efficiency. Had I not been watching closely I would have assumed the lower range at a given % was because of more pessimistic efficiency estimates, but by watching closely and seeing the same voltage before and after the update gives the identical range but a higher SOC indicates same efficiency but less energy available at the top end of the pack.

Just noticed this on my truck as well. Previously stated 203 and now 199 at 70%
ā€˜22 R1T large on 20ā€ AT. Interesting.

I HIGHLY doubt you're now limited by a few more kwh (though possible, I doubt it's the case).

It is most likely BMS calibration (or lack thereof). I just plugged in my truck minutes ago for it to jump from 80 to 83% in literally 15 seconds (I'm charging to 100% tonight for a road trip)... Those jumps are somewhat normal when some type of reset was involved in the mix recently.

My electrify still shows 131kWh total energy available....

Unscientific finding. Charged to 71% before leaving and as soon as it dropped to 70, range showed the usual 203 miles.
