Going on a short road trip to the Oregon Coast for a few days and looking for some highlight stops. Have two nights in Cannon Beach to start, and a few free days to meander south. The dunes is the furthest south we'd go. Any highlights to consider? Thanks! (Family of four). Not camping on this trip, we'll stay in hotels or whatever we find that looks nice.

There's some fun stuff to do on Canon Beach - check out Indian Head Beach just north of the main drag in town.

FYI, if you enjoy beverages of the grown-up variety, Cannon Beach allows you to walk around town with your drinks.

If you're willing to go further south, there are two things I'd point out for sure.

Just south of the town of Rockaway Beach (like, maybe 20 feet outside of city limits?) is a tree grove with a nice wooden path that is quite spectacular.

Also in Tillamook is the Tillamook cheese factory, with a nice self-guided your that is free - although there is also cheese, ice cream, and food to purchase that is with going to alone.

Awesome - thanks for the recommendations! Will probably check out both of those :)

There is so much to see and do on the Oregon coast it's hard to know where to start. Tillamook is a good suggestion. Going further south you have Newport and Yaquina Bay. Both the lighthouse and the Oregon Coast Aquarium are well worth the time. And stop at the original Mo's for great clam chowder. Just about every small town and state beach down the coast is worth a visit.

All of the above are excellent options.

Assuming this trip is happening in the next month or two, a whale watching boat trip from Depoe Bay is a good option, too.

The Seaside Arcade and Carousel Mall might be good options, depending on the age of the kids.

Lewis & Clark National Historical Park, with its recreation of Fort Clatsop outside Astoria is a good educational stop.

I second Depoe Bay. Second favorite place after Cannon beach! Whale cove a couple of miles south from Depoe Bay is a beautiful park, and you can very often see whales from there. There are some resident whales.
Pacific city is very cool. Stop at the Otter crest view point and visit the devils punchbowl.
Georgie’s beach house grill in Newport is a nice spot for dinner!

have a blast!

Grew up on the coast in Coos Bay. If you have time to venture that far south, Bandon is nice and known for the golf courses and has a good creamery. Coos Bay has a sub place called City Subs that has amazing bread (maybe worth the drive in itself); RAN location available here. Shore acres near Coos Bay is worth a visit. Pacific City is also a great small town with Pelican Brewery basically on the beach. Cape Lookout state park I would also recommend.

Cannon Beach on main street, Hemlock, Pizza a'fetta for lunch/dinner. Earlier this week lots of big elk wondering through the town.
Depot Bay is also my second favorite place. On the way to Depot Bay, stop at Fogarty Beach, if tides out fun rock to climb on.

Flamingo Jim’s in Rockaway Beach is a quintessential Oregon Coast shop. It’s packed with so many fun things, including Zoltar at the entrance. I couldn’t recommend it more for a family stop.

Consider scheduling time on the Washington Coast, perhaps on a future trip.

Both ends of Washington's Pacific Ocean, and several places in the middle, are absolute gems.

Best wishes!

If you have time to go inland, Sunriver is a beautiful outdoor mecca.

I went here when I was a kid and it was really fun. Went back a few years ago to take my wife (who had never been, even with nearly 30 years of her family going to Cannon Beach and Rockaway), and it was somehow even more interesting? Really quite a place.

You pretty much can spend weeks going up the Oregon Coast if you wanted. You can't go wrong with any location really. I personally like the Garibaldi area, but I'm not your normal beach person. Every beach area is different and many have hidden things to see. Enjoy your time and don't try to see it all - just plan for another trip in the future :)
