I'm looking to do tire changes and running board install at home, so I'd like to be able to jack up one whole side of the truck safely.

Once you have the Rivian jacked up using pucks, how are folks using jack stands to keep the entire side elevated/stable? Most jack stands have "curved" saddles that don't look like they could hold a jack puck. Is there another stable jack point tha can be used?

If I decide to use a jack stand, I lift our Rivian's from the lower control arms (similar to what many Rivian field service techs do) and then place a jack stand with our magnetic jack pucks in the jack point location.

You can get something like this, I have a different brand that appears to be unavailable now but I use them for my tire rotations.

Yeah, I was looking into those. The part that contacts the car, the saddle--is it big enough to securely place a jack puck, or do you lift it from the control arm as well?

Many people use this type successfully, but I personally prefer a flat-top saddle to ensure the jack pucks sit perfectly flush.

Mine have rubber on top and the jack puck sits on top.

Your safest bet looks like what Mark posted above. That looks like something I'd chance getting under. Lol

You don't need to jack it up for running boards. Put it in the tallest off-road mode. That's how I did it, fantastic clearance even with a creeper. No need to go higher, in fact, in some ways it was a bit high as I had to reach upwards a lot.

I wouldn't use stands for tire changes. Stands are a safety device to save you if you are under the vehicle. You won't be under it for tires. In fact I can't imagine why you'd ever be under the Rivian really, what is there to do?

And finally, I put it in tire change mode and let the jack down. The one hub floated in the air and didn't touch the ground. Maybe that's what tire change mode does; lock up the suspension?

When I do tire changes/rotations, I use a standard jack stand just as an extra safety device - I put it under one of the control arms of the suspension while I change the tire and leave the Rivian on the jack. Not sure if that’s the best way to do it, but it has worked and have not felt the need to get a specialty jack+jack stand.

If I wanted to go crazy and had unlimited $$, this is what Rivian sells for the service technicians. https://rivianservicetools.com/Catalog/Product/TSN00597-300-E?groupId=146

I think there’s a slightly cheaper version that Rennstand makes, but it’s hard to find.

I'd go with a good floor jack and any jack stand that meets the height/weight requirements if you need to lift. I basically do what @Jnz does. However, I didn't need to lift my R1 for my step install but I do swap or rotate wheels 3 times a year.

I have the bottle-jack / jack-stand combo setup mentioned earlier with a modified puck:

But... it's a bit scary to use so I stopped:

For a floor jack, I like the Daytona pictured here (the orange thing):

that looks like a great set up. I was thinking about a tire dolly and a floor jack. The bottle jack is not perfect since the truck pivots a little at the height needed for tire changes, which means you’ll always have a little angle at full extension. A floor jack seems to be the better way to go.

Just want to reiterate that this method works well with the HF dolly to move the wheels around and get them in place, etc. No more lifting 80+ lbs of wheel/tire by hand! Without a good jackstand though it means you need to use the spare and move it around a few times to do a tire rotation. Swapping winter wheels isn't bad since it's a one for one swap.

Thanks! Yeah, that pivot you mention is pretty pronounced when lifting an R1T, especially the rear.

The frame is pretty stiff, I use 2 jack stand combos alternating front and back. As it goes up pressure comes off of the other jack stand and it can slide under to stay aligned.

Certainly floor jacks would be easier with the wheels to roll under, I plan on getting some just have not found ones I want yet and the jack stands are working for me so not in a rush.
