Mine was about that close and I chickened out and moved some portable shelves out of the way and now there's about a foot on either end.

That was a little too tight for me when there will be snow on it this winter.

Luckily the outside control pad is right near where I park, so that's how I close the door now. Stand by the door and push the button to ensure Artee doesn't get his bum whacked by the garage door.
