I was going to buy a dual, until I drove a Tri. After comparing the dual spec price to the Tri it was all over, even my wife was fully onboard. Not the smartest financial decision I ever made but at 65 what are you saving it for. I was really nervous carrying that big check to the delivery center….
You won't regret it.

did you consider waiting for upgrades to the FSD?
I'll be honest, I'm more interested in an 800 Volt battery than the FSD. So the current level of FSD is just fine for me.

Besides waiting means a year at the minimum, probably a bit more.

The few times I've had to DC charge for more than 15 minutes I was eating lunch anyway. The Max pack just gets me to so many places without worrying about charging. Keep in mind that the TRI and performance models only give full hp in Sport mode.

I haven't heard from Rivian concerning my 'tasks' as of this morning. E-mailed my sales associate I talked to earlier and of course I get the e-mail from Rivian not too long after. Suspiciously quickly after, LOL.

So, what's the deal with the Rivian requirement that you provide proof of insurance before you even take possession of the vehicle? I will be insuring it of course. But I am not going to get insurance for a vehicle that is not in my possession yet and I don't even have a date of delivery promised. What do people do here?

I had to do that with the two Teslas I bought back in the day along with my R1T in 2024. The requirement varies from state to state. If you have a vehicle already, proof of insurance from that usually covers things.

State law? You can't be on the roads without insurance and since you'll be driving immediately after delivery...

Good to get with your insurance company ahead of time so you know the price but they can bind with a phone call and they would need the VIN anyway so no worries. Same with payment. I took a cashiers check with when they got the car to the pickup center.

I called my insurance agent, and he added it to my policy. I would have had to do that anyway, and it really wasn't a hassle.

It may help to understand the process. In my purchase, and I assume many/most/all(?) cases Rivian outsources the vehicle licensing and registration process to a 3rd party. When you buy a new car at a local dealer, they typically handle all of that in house, and you have to provide proof of insurance. In my state they cannot issue a plate unless you prove insurance, I assume that's everywhere? For you to take possesion of the vehicle, Rivian has to engage the 3rd party in advance, so the insurance has to be proven in advance.

My insurance company was fine with it. they issued an insurance card, and said I just needed to notify them when I actually took delivery, no billing and also no claim coverage until I confirmed delivery.
