Took a rock and no damage either. Must just be luck of the draw.

It just says you pay your deductible and it’s not a separate policy. Guess if I change my deductible to $100 then I can get my windshield replaced cheaply. This is the page explaining the policy. I have not gone back and checked it to see if any terms have changed in the last 2-3 years but I think it’s the easiest way to get windshields replaced if you go through them like we do here in CO. They really don’t ask questions. If you contact them and say your windshield is cracked they say ok…

That’s true. I guess I see it as separate because our deductible for everything else is different And one can choose from multiple deductibles for glass. Apologies if my description was confusing. It just says you pay your deductible and it’s not a separate policy. Guess if I change my deductible to $100 then I can get my windshield replaced cheaply.
No worries. Thanks for posting this. I’ll look into changing my deductible since the Rivian windshield is so expensive. That’s true. We need some aftermarket glass options stat!I dropped my truck off at the service center today to have a few items taken care of, and the Rivian service advisor cautiously said, “you picked up rock in your windshield. Did that happen today?”. I calmly asked them to add the windshield replacement to the list.
He was correct when he noted that I was in the best possible place to have discovered the issue. The sore spot is that I asked for windshield protection film when I had the PPF and quartz put on the truck - the film was backordered. I guess this first windshield will have to go after only 2.5 months!![]()
The SC in Portland quoted me $1200 to replace a chipped windshield. Why is this complicated?
Chipped or cracked? Chips are easy to fill, these cracks are a foot across the corner. It definitely needs a full replacement. Also, what was your timeline? The SC in Portland quoted me $1200 to replace a chipped windshield.
How do these protective films hold up with the wipers?XPEL doesn't make a windshield protection film - they only make PPF and window tint.
If you want a decent windshield protection film, look at the following:
- ExoShield
- STEK DYNOflex
- Madico ClearPlex
Get on that ASAP before it spiders! Those $15 DIY kits are great.I was blessed with a chip (star) on our drive home last night in the rain... we all heard it, then saw it once the rain washed away. Hopefully it can be filled and not have to be replaced. We will see.

Can you share your quote with us? Official quote is about $1800 before tax. I was able to get them to add this to my upcoming appointment, I'll just get reimbursed on the backend. The SC in Portland quoted me $1200 to replace a chipped windshield.
Wipers definitely wear down the film. I’d recommend using a water beading coating over the film (ceramic or graphene), and let the coating wick Water from the windshield. Daily drivers could expect to replace the film every 2-3 years due to wear and tear. How do these protective films hold up with the wipers?
??‍I also roll with tubes of chip repair and fix the cars ASAP. A star can turn into a crack just parking in a garage or if someone in the car farts.
