After reading some of those other threads about the windshield and roof glass I finally watched the Netflix doc about Fuyao and let’s just say it did not inspire confidence. YMMV.

^^^ This. It's only a matter of time for all of us. Fascinating documentary which shows how different human cultures can be. Unfortunately, poor glass is part of the resultant theme.

I would be very surprised if it was. For the price of the vehicle it should be top grade glass.

I took a rock last week and got off light. No cracks or chips. Hopefully my luck holds out. I had a chip on my Audi windshield last year.

Once they crack, you're SOL. But for those that get a rock chip, should call a company like Safelite IMMEDIATELY and have it repaired. Don't drive the truck any further than you absolutely must. They will usually come to you pretty quickly. I've had two chips "repaired" already and was fortunate to get to them before they cracked or spider web'd. The more you drive it after a getting a chip, the more likely it is to expand into a crack.

Usually body on frames are very forgiving to chips in the glass since the stresses from the vehicle on the glass are much lower while it drives. I’ve had a good size chip in both my truck and SUV for over 8 years and neither has grown larger than a quarter. I think rivian needs to source a better manufacturer for their glass.

I put super glue in the chip on my Tacoma and haven’t had an issue with it in many years.

I'm still not convinced Rivian's glass is any different or weaker than any other car. Several of us have taken hard hits with no chipping or cracking. The last time I had a windshield repaired on a previous vehicle, the Safelite technician told me it was the best job security he has ever had with any job. At this point it looks like more of bad or good luck. It would take real data on at least several hundred vehicles in a given geographic area to compare glass damage rates. A handful on internet forums that are magnets for issue reporting doesn't equate to a defective product in my book.
