I'm in GA and took delivery Monday - this is exactly what went down for me. Just have to site back and wait for the the relevant paperwork on it to arrive now after Rivian sends it all in
Congratulations! That's good news that the registration process is even easier than I had assumed.

Some of the local dealers have said that customers will no longer get the experience of being cared for by their local dealer... which is something, to say the least. Obviously, it can be both, since they fancy themselves a critical aspect of the "pleasent" customer experience, but I doubt we will see legistlation passed anytime soon.
IMO the only thing dealerships do to care for customers after the sale is strictly service, which Rivian obviously already has service centers, at least one in Atlanta for now, and I'd imagine more, including something at the new plant.

ICE only :(
FWIW, Tesla is allowed direct sales in GA. They have a statutory exemption that they were able to get through when they were still just selling the S and maybe X.

In practice, the difference to a customer is so minor that it's just pure pettiness on the part of the dealers association. The legislation has always been very clear that it would only ever apply to new manufacturers and not ones that already have dealerships in Georgia. That's apparently not enough. Oh well.

Took delivery on my Rivian last Saturday. Live between downtown ATL and about 20 miles from the new plant that will be coming.

The issue in GA is purely political. And the majority of the folks opposed to it don't even know what they are opposed to. They just know that Trump and David Perdue are against it and so they are against it too, because they are for or against whatever these men are for or against.

Perdue is against it because this was one of Brian Kemp's key victories in his first term. But some of folks running for other offices in the state that have trump's backing are car dealers, so they oppose it. And Perdue jumped on the bandwagon.

On the democratic side, best I can tell Abrams is for it.

Bottom line: this is political noise. But after the November election this will go through because either Kemp or Abrams will win the governor's race.

Now that people have had a taste of buying a car directly from the manufacturer, any laws that protect dealerships is just going to further push business from those dealer/manufacturers.
It’s a sinking ship and it can’t survive long term no matter what. The gravy sucking pigs need to scoop up the cash they have made with the help of their friends in high places and go away. I personally will never buy from a dealership again. Even if it’s a second or third choice of cars, if I don’t have to deal with BS salesperson And dealer shenanigans I’ll just buy direct.

Just got my Rivian 2 weeks ago. I am assuming Rivian will file the paperwork for the car registration. I didn't really pay much attention when the guide dropped off the truck (was too excited to listen to that kind of stuff). Did anyone receive their license from the State yet?
