Gear Guard storage drive format?

I have tried three different thumb drives/ssd drives for gear guard. I've ensured they're the right size. I've tried formatting them to ExFAT, FAT, etc. The truck doesn't recognize that anything's even been plugged in. Gen 2 R1T, if that matters.

Any ideas?

What models have you tested? And for the SSDs, are you using the cable that came with the device in question?

What error message does your Rivian give you when you attempt to set up these devices?

Do devices still charge off those ports? You wouldn't be the first person to have ports that didn't get plugged in internally.

I didn't see FAT32 (the required format) on your list...

There are a few requirements according to the user's manual...

128G Min, 2TB Max, 20MB/s Min Write Speed, FAT32 as mentioned above, Plugged into center console, no hub or splitter. The one I purchased was preformatted as ExFAT and when the R1S recognized it, it offered to format it to the proper format.

Thanks for the replies (and Go Vandals, VandalSibs). Some answers to questions:

- The ports have power (and the disk light comes on).
- I've tried both ports
- I've tried a Samsung T3 (1Tb) and a Samsung 512Gb Thumb drive.
- I've tried them new out of the package, formatted to FAT32, and formatted to ExFAT
- There are no error messages. I tap "Set Up", it says to plug in drive, I do, and then it stops and goes back to the set up page.

I would try to restart the car if you haven't yet.

It may not solve the problem, but try doing a soft reset then starting from step 1 again

Soft reset didn't change anything.

Next step (I think) is to do what Dark-FX suggested and see if either port in the center console will charge a phone. If not, then you'll need to open a service ticket for them to take a look at it.

So how fast would an SSD at 1T vs 2T fill up?

Does the vehicle over write old data when full?
