I noticed today when I walked by my vehicle, the tail light will flash. I didn’t notice it before. I’m assuming it’s the vehicle letting people know that it’s constantly recording. If I change to record incidents only, that means it will only record upon an accident, like a hard braking situation. Incidents only setting will not capture situations where someone hits your car walking by, which is why I have it to record all the time. But does that mean everytime a car drives by my house, the taillight will turn on to let them know it’s recording?

Drive cam only records while you are driving and only records to your external storage device. Gear Guard Gary only records during motion events. So will it record every car.... it "depends". Ours doesn't record every car usually, but does record some of them. It typically only records about five videos per night, but a few days ago I parked in a different spot at home and it recorded 100 videos of the xmas lights reflecting off my F150.

So given that, do most people leave gear guard on? Is gear guard always on 24/7 or can you switch the setting to record only certain things/events? I thought someone told me to change it to incidents only or was that for drive cam?

Taillight flash happens when it comes out of sleep. Been like that since the early days.

I just got the vehicle so it’s all learning experience for me. So that’s probably what happened. It was off and I walked by to alert it. Not sure if that’s a good thing since a lot of people and cars go up and down the street. But I guess it’s no different than teslas that flash their lights to show that they are warning you that they are recording. Everyone keeps motion cam on?

Mine wakes and flashes from paak and then unlocks when I get to the door. Unfortunately the car also constantly wakes up because I'm two stories above in my office. So I guess the lights on the car kept coming on in the parking garage. No wonder the battery gets sucked empty. No more paak for me I guess unless I can automate BT on/off somehow.

Should I turn on incidents?

Drivecam is when you are recording the entire drive. I can see this being helpful. I just read about a family who got cut off by an aggressive driver on the freeway. The driver ended up shooting into the vehicle, killing their son, and the car's camera recorded the license plate and he was caught.

I think I have to buy a 2TB external card usb C. Recommendations welcome. I found this compact Samsung one online but 256gb does not seem like it will be enough.

Are you supposed to always leave the usb C in 1 of the 2 the c slot in the middle of the vehicle?

No. This has nothing to do with Gear Guard.

The flashing only happens for *you*, not random people. It's because you're carrying your phone or your fob and the vehicle detects you are approaching and wakes up in anticipation that you might want to unlock and get in the vehicle.

For the motion events, it records to internal hard drive? How much internal storage does Rivian have onboard? So how much of motion cam is recorded before it has to delete over?

I’m a new owner as well and I’m learning too. I walked by my vehicle today to put the garbage to the curb with my phone in my pocket. I noticed the rear reverse lights on. Do they also come on when the car unlocks?

I grabbed this from the owners manual. I hope this helps.

Thank you for pointing these features out. I have been somewhat confused about this from the beginning.

I think the courtesy lights come on after it locks but could also when you approach
