I’m still hoping the 3rd row is able to recline. From this image the 3rd row looks very upright.

The pics captured from the Instagram stories are ridiculous (no offense to the posters). I've seen clearer pics from Area 51! ?

Rivian REALLY NEEDS to provide clear pics and details seeing as R1S deliveries are happening SOOOOOON!

My takeaways from the IG AMA were (1) the storage area behind the 3rd row looks bigger than expected, (2) we can now be sure the 2nd row slides (but has no "car seat friendly tilt"), and (3) the 3rd row bottom seat cushion looks a little low to me (I worry that average adults sitting back there would have the knees-in-your-chest feeling). With that 3rd row sunroof, I would have expected them to be able to give the 3rd row more of a "stadium seating" arrangement without having a headroom problem.
No adults on 3rd row

Yeah, but at that point, there was no indication if the design was finalized. There has been many features that have "shifted" a bit from proto builds to GA. This was one of the things that actually mattered to me since we'll ocassionally use the car for skiing (if we don't use the R1T).
Check it out....it's Ocean Coast.....

They have to balance the seat height with also trying to make it fold flat.

Posted here by @kanundrum yesterday.

Found the 3rd row area seating pics interesting. Doesn't look like much 3rd row leg room, but also notice what looks like 2nd row latch/(tilt?) & sliding capabilities to gain some more room, as needed:

Based on sizing comparisons and random posts here, I think you should be able to fit an adult in the 3rd row (unless you are large).

It is my understanding the Hyundai Palisade has a very similarly sized 3rd row. I'm 5'10" and ~170lbs and I can sit with no problems. In fact, I have about 3-4 inches in front of my knees before hitting the 2nd row.

Adults will 100% fit.
I'm an adult and I've fit in the third row of a goddamn ford S-max for long stints driving around europe.
This has more third row legroom than that per measurements

@kanundrum , thanks for posting the pics!

Does anyone have any idea what the T-shaped pieces, circled in yellow, do in the second row seat track? It looks to me like they pivot at the back so I assume they latch the second row seat in position or they are stops which, when not in the track allow the second row seat to slide further back. I am just curious…

Hm, that's interesting. It almost looks like a little handle where you stick two fingers in and pull up to release the seats to remove?

That’s why they caught my eye. I would swear I saw something similar in another vehicle over the years. Maybe a van or minivan? I didn’t want to make too big a leap so I only mentioned allowing the second row seat to slide further back. The second row seats are heated and probably have sensors in them. Making them removable may just be wishful thinking since relying on people to disconnect and reconnect wiring without breaking anything could be too much to ask.

When the day comes (soon?) that I get to sit in an R1S I’ll be looking at those to see what they do...

Yea I think the legroom will be adequate for our family in the 3rd row.

The question still remains for us on whether it is reasonable to access it with car seats installed.

Seems like it will be the same as anything else that relies on fold and tumble for 3rd row access. Which is to say…maybe someone could squeeze in

Yea, likely not great, but doable perhaps. I really wish the seat belts were integrated into the seats on the second row.

For some reason moderators removed the link to a Video from YouTube, they said it was a repost but obviously people here are not seeing it. Plenty of information about 3rd row comfort, access etc..
