Picked up my vehicle after a wheel balancing and alignment at Costa Mesa yesterday and when I got home noticed the little flap for the dc charging was open and wet. Checked my app and they dc charged it prior to giving it back to me. Must have done it in the rain.

I dried off the flap completely with a paper towel and left it open in my garage overnight and plugged in my L2. Car charged to 70% as normal.

This morning went to put my work bag in the back and when the door was opened heard a boop boop boop from the front.

Red warning failure. Charge port dry. Did a hard reset and soft reset. No good. Car is getting towed. Sigh.

The better half had to stay home and take care of the call to Rivian for tow and rental since I had to rush to work and see patients.

Thanks for sharing! My new Gen2 DC charging during heavy snow storm in Tahoe - and on more than one occasions, I saw in next charging stop that the DC charge port cover/flap was down - either I wasn't pushing that flap in hard enough or simply forgetting to do so - coming from Tesla - didn't have this habit. I am glad I didn't see this warning. Hope you get your R1 back ASAP!

T+24hrs update.

Burbank took the car in. I received a message they will look at it soon. It is not in service mode so I could tell they ran an overnight shift working on other Rivians.

Really enjoying the FWD Hyundai rental, the only vehicle left at Enterprise. Ok, I'm glad I got any alternate transportation at all, and I know this isn't within Rivian's control. Burbank is new, they have no loaners.

T+60 hrs. No formal update from Rivian. But I did notice a line item added about needing an updated HVAC drain. Maybe the common hvac issue causing the electrical short warning?

I had something similar happen to me on my 10 month old Gen1 R1S...ended up being 12v battery plus an AC compressor

T + 72hrs. Burbank texted me saying the issue seems to be a bad AC compressor and they are also finding intermittent trouble codes with the heater. They did find a clogged AC drain but it seems if they are doing the HVAC that is part of the service. Will be interesting to learn how a bad AC compressor triggered the electrical warning.

Got nothing to do with the DC charging flap or connector. It's not being checked unless a charge is being initiated. I don't think the AC compressor runs off of HV but they might've changed that in gen2 (Actually, I do see an orange cable in the vicinity of the compressor, so maybe it is HV.). Gen1 runs the PTC heater in the HVAC off HV, so will throw that error if there is a communications issue between that and the rest of the vehicle.

They did comment there were intermittent heating system codes but the field test showed it was working. Maybe its just failing enough to trigger that error. I guess I'll know more in the coming days.

Yes I realize now the wet charging flap was just a red herring in this case.

Leasing Model 3 until R3X comes out, but now I have an R2 reservation as well.
T+8 days. Rivian informed me they have not located the root cause of the error and it is being escalated to an engineering team investigation.
Ugh, I’m sorry to hear this. Hopefully they find out the root cause and get it back to you soon.

At one point they'll fly in a Engineer (or two) from the factory to do a deep dive. FWIW- sometimes it comes down to something as basic a pinched/shorted wiring harness (which you would think the SC "technicians" would be able to find given they have the full wiring diagrams for the vehicle).

Being southern California, I am kind of hoping they just send up an engineer from their Irvine headquarters. Will keep you all informed.

Its a new service center so no loaners. Had some bad luck with the rental car. First Hyundai Santa Fe got hit in a parking lot (its socal after all!) and had to bring it back to Enterprise because the rear turn signal is low on the bumper and got pushed in, rendering the vehicle "undriveable" without a turn signal. Got put in a rattle trap Kia sedan which made terrible metallic clanking noises when braking (not quite the Rivian adventurous experience I was expecting). Exchanged it now for a FWD Rav4 which is about as good a rental as I can get probably. I'm grateful for transportation at all to be honest.
