Welp, Rivian have turned around on mine and noted that it’s a “normal” and “expected” thing to occur - something tells me this is how it’s going to be moving forward - thankfully it’s only a lease so they can just deal with it down the line when they have it back. But at least I have it for my records.

I have mine in service at Costa Mesa right now and listed the rear clunk as an item. Will let you all know what they say.

My main issue to bring it in was the old car creak when starting and stopping, likely half shafts? So I figure, I'll add the clunk issue to the list to see what they say. Did a drive around with a tech and they heard the creaking immediately and was able to demonstrate the clunk a couple times.

Had my vehicle at Costa Mesa this week and reported the rear motor clunk. They did a diagnostic, noted that the rear motor needed calibration, which was performed, and it is smoother now, similar to pre 2024.51. You can still feel it engaging but it no longer has the abrupt shove. This seems to be something entirely software so I bet mobile service can take care of this.

Have they said anything about the creaking? I have the same issue going on that’s gotten worse overtime and I have an appointment for it and wondering how long the fix is.

I was hoping this would be changed with a software update and 2 of them have come and gone without a fix. Looks like I'm forced to waste some Rivian dollars on this. (Stock holder here)

Creaking was front halfshafts and they did a service campaign where they adding new ting washers and took everything apart and relubed everything. It was unclear whether they replaced the actual axles. The noise is gone, for now.

I have that problem on the front and rear, so good to hear they have a fix and hopefully it’s not a bandaid.

I was pretty vocal in this thread early on. I'm not adding "rear end engagement" to the list of things to have Rivian service look at the next time it's in. While I can feel it most prominently on interstate driving, I don't get much on surface street driving under 55mph or so. Guessing I'm just not aggressive enough often enough, or the speed is low enough to keep it at bay. On the interstate though, it's gotten to be quite noticeable. Even had a guest rider the other day ask what it was. I suspect I'll be told it's "normal" when it goes in for service, but we'll see.

Curious if anyone has a favored "work around" for keeping AWD locked while driving.

  • If I turn traction control down, it puts a warning in the instrument panel.
    • Not a fan of that.
    • Also, it turns traction control back on if Cruise or Driver+ is used. Which kind of defeats the purpose.
  • If I use Snow mode, then inputs and regen are significantly muted and reduced.
    • Which leads to a less than desirable driving experience.
Is there another method available to "lock" AWD for normal daily driving that I haven't thought of?
