Since 2024.51.01 was released on Gen 1 Dual Motor performance, I have noticed that all purpose engages the rear Motor much more abruptly.

I'm trying to decipher whether I'm having an issue or not.

About 2 weeks ago just before the 2024.51.01 update, I had a turtle mode error and the rear Motor was disabled. I did a reset and it cleared the error and everything seemed to be OK. The update came out the next day, making it tough to pin this on software or timing.

I notice when on the highway at 60+ mph, when in all-purpose.... there is a bit of a thump when the rear Motor engages under higher throttle. I don't remember this before.

If I'm driving in all purpose and engage Snow Mode, the thump hits when the Motor engages. So it's clearly the engagement of the Motor. This all happened right around the update and that turtle mode/rear Motor disengagement.

Sound familiar to anyone else? Has anyone noticed a difference after the update? I posted a similar thread on this before but I didn't word it right or mention the Dual Motor.

I’ve noticed that on our Dual - don’t love it and that’s why I got the Tri motor for me. Doesn’t really bother my better 1/2.

Oh, and noticed it as soon as I drove it in Dec - prior to sw update.

I really think they should add conserve mode back in for the dual motor and keep both motors engaged in all purpose

I wonder if there is a range hit for just rolling it in snow mode all the time.

I really starting to hate this beta test on Gen 1.

Oh Jon: my bad... mine's a dual motor Gen 2... but I have noticed it all the time. It is entirely possible yours changed on a sw update.

I'm sure snow mode on the dual would knock some range off, but not sure how much

I wish Rivian would weigh in on this. It's very annoying now on All-purpose. I just pulled into a parking lot.....doing some tests now.

I think I’m with you - not sure - but certainly when I now ease off the accelerator on freeways and then re-engage (enough to cause regenerative and then engage the rear wheels) I certainly get what feels like a “jolt” - I’m having the service center look at it just in case, but certainly noticeable now.

FWIW there was an issue with the Quads earlier in the lifecycle where we'd get a clunk when transitioning out of Conserve mode, similar to what you are describing in your Duals.

They did a SW update that softens the throttle input to minimize driveline stress (and eliminate lash) while they disengaged the clutch. You could feel a really slight decrease in acce/decel but the transition went from clunky to smooth.

I hope they figure this out for you DM owners soon, too.

I bet they increased the power allowed at engagement. It was probably more progressive before and now we have this miserable clunk.

I got to a point (pre-smoothing) when I'd go to neutral throttle when I manually switched to/from conserve.

Not sure if you guys can do that, unfortunately (I think DM "conserve" is fully automated based on power demand?)

I started driving in snow mode. It's smoother.

I can't imagine this stays broken beyond the next update. They are actively servicing vehicles over it.

I just noticed that too in my R1T DM running All Purpose but it wasn't the rear motor kicking in, it was just a thump as I was accelerating from the front motor. Strange how it went from smooth to rough. I'm sure it will adjust in a future update

Echoing many of the same sentiments above. It never jerked like an ICE car before, but started that behavior after the last update. Feels like I’m driving an ICE Chevy Suburban for a split second.
