I'm running mine in snow mode, I'm worried that it's going to damage the motor.
Haven't read all the pages here yet but also find setting traction control on "reduced" keeps the rear motor engaged. Can then leave it in AP vs Snow.

I'll play with that. Haven't tested that one yet.

That's what I've done too

A mobile technician did a ride-along to pull diagnostics and found the rear motor position sensor calibration was missing. No start/end values tied to the configuration. We redid the calibration and performed a hard reset, so far the issue hasn’t returned.

Mine had the same calibration issue, was fixed and the clutch engagement was more noticeable. The firmware update must have done the same for everyone else.

Thought it was worth mentioning that I had my dual motor in for the wheel hub tightening issue today at the Shelton, CT service center and asked them if they could look at the rear motor calibration as I was having the same rough engagement issue on the highway in AP mode as others. They had me do a ride along test drive after completing the update and it was fully resolved. The technician explained the issue in the same manner that Oyabro stated above…basically the prior software update caused a loss of synchronization in the motor and the new calibration fixed it. Very happy with the service received…on a side note I found it funny that I was one of 4 people in the service center today and the other three were all Amazon Van drivers. Assumed they handled the commercial fleet separately but apparently that’s not the case at least around here anyway.

I am experiencing this issue now.... first noticed on a trip to montana over the mountains.. It's very, very noticeable going up a highway pass.

Rivian wants me to take to the SC, which is 300 miles away.

Definitely a bit frustrating that a software update messed up the drivability of the car.

I'm going to be in Seattle for 2 days for business in a couple of weeks and I'm hoping (but not optimistic) that they can turn it around while I'm there.

Dougfresh for whatever its worth it was a quick software fix that took less than 30 minutes for me. In the meantime as others have suggested use snow mode to keep both motors engaged in the mountains. I actually prefer it on the descent as well as it feels a bit more stable having both front and rear motors engaged with regen.

I wonder how negligible the range figures are with stability reduced.... Which is the other way to lock in the rear motors.

Any idea if we can do this synchronization calibration ourselves through the service menu?

I have a Gen2 DM and also started to notice in the last two months that the rear motor has the thunk when it engages at speed under load. Climbing a steep grade on the highway is a good example of when it is very noticeable.

I have about 8K miles on my car so I thought this thunk was just the new car honeymoon period wearing off.

Due to someone else's advice in this thread, I did a hard reset of the car (left wheel button + hazard button for 15 seconds), and it has resolved the issue.

I can still feel a very slight engagement of the second motor if I'm really paying attention, but I'm not getting that lurch & thunk that I was before. Did a lap around the highway and tried 10-15 slow downs & accelerations at 60-70 mph and the sensation I was experiencing before has gone away.

Cancelling my service appointment and taking a plane to Seattle instead!
