Yeah those are some serious scratches. We don't have any of the stacked parking in the West, but I just instinctively hit "low" when in a garage. Just in case.

I"m interested in what you folks do with your cars? Do you hand wash primarily, or do you use an automatic car wash?

If you autowash, do you lease?

I autowash and lease.
Auto carwash eversince. Not a leased S.

Hand wash. I can't consistently get my EV's to go into neutral at the exact right moment the chain driven roller pushes the front tire. I crash the conveyor rollers every time, and get foul looks from the attendant.

Go to a flat lot and practice using the shift lever to put it into neutral. I was originally using the button on the car wash mode screen and was really inconsistent (and got the same nasty looks from the attendant). Once I got good at using the lever to put it into neutral I haven't had any issues. I put it in car wash mode while the eye is reading my plate, knowing I won't be exceeding the speed limit that turns off car wash mode as I go around the turn into the wash. Then it's just a matter of getting it into neutral when the attendant gives me the thumbs-up.

I hand washed my R1Ts. But now I'm leasing an R1S and it's only for the car wash. I don't even care if it's touchless.

Hand wash all the way. Check out this video on what damage a convenient car wash can do over time

Hand wash only! I own my truck and have PPF and ceramic coating. I wash it in my driveway with a foam canon and wash mitts. If I’m on the road, I find a self-service car wash and wash it myself. That’s the only way to guarantee that everything gets cleaned.

Hand wash only. I can’t get myself to run through a gas station car wash if I’m not getting the discount for buying gas.

I use Armour Detail Supply Hero Rinseless Wash. Mix it in 2 gallons of water in a single bucket. I work a couple panels at a time (ex. Driver door top/bottom, hood, quarter panels, etc.). Pre-spray and let sit for a minute if the truck is really dirty. Use a Rag Company Black Sponge from the bucket to wipe the panels. Spray Armour Detail Supply Amplify Detail spray and wipe with Liquid8r drying towel (flipping to other sections for each set of panels). Follow up with a second liquid8r towel just to catch any missed spots (single small towel for the whole truck since first towel does the main drying). The Amplify spray is a short-lasting ceramic coating and drying aid that helps water beading for a couple months and keeps water spots from forming. Takes about 30 minutes to do the whole truck. If the truck is really dirty I’ll first spray the truck down with water from a hose, but I rarely have to do that.

I use a local "pull in and the sprayers circle the vehicle" car wash - works well enough and does an under-body sprayer, too to get the road grime off. The I have some fiber cloths and hand dry anything remaining when I get home.

Bought out my lease; own my R1T outright.

Murphy's Law or Sh!t Happens. Pick your adage or saying, but both apply to most aspects of life including vehicle ownership. So I am not that meticulous about the paint or worry about PPF, hand washing, ceramic, etc. Let's face it, this is a highly depreciable computer on wheels in a rapidly changing vehicle segment. It gets used daily and will depreciate regardless of what I do to try to mitigate that, so why sweat the small stuff like scuffs, dings, etc.. if you enjoy using it for what it was built to do.

22 R1T, own. Autowash once a week.
