From experience, streaming XM sounds much better than using actual XM in cars. The satellite signal just can’t provide the same amount of fidelity as cellular.
i agree. I do this at home from Echo devices with 3.5mm out to a much better speaker. Very convenient and sounds great.

All I want with the Rivian/Alexa integration is multi-language and cultural settings. I want my wake word to be "cabrona!" and it respond to me in CUBAN!

Anyone with Alexa know if I can ask my Google Assiyto tell Alexa to do things, or would I have to get some sort of Alexa device?
You could download the Alexa app for your phone and use it as an Alexa device. You can even use the Amazon shopping app.
Just click on the microphone app in the top right.

As someone with multiple Echo devices, I would guess that you can set-up the Rivian as just another Echo device and also create a "group", such as "Rivian", so from inside your home you could tell your home Alexa device to "Set <Rivian> temperature to 70". Problem is, the Rivian would need to be "on" for this to work.

The phone app does tell you when your R1? is "cold" with an option to warm it up, but you can't set a temperature to warm it up to via the phone app. Does the same for cooling if it's hot.

Will be fun to explore what one can or can't do via Alexa once I get my R1T... So sOON yet so far away!

Could it be that Rivian signed a secret agreement with Amazon to make Alexa the exclusive electronic assistant in the Rivian until a date certain? This could explain why no CarPlay.

Honestly, I don't have Alexa, I don't think I've said "Alexa, ..." in my life and I like it that way. Rivian will make me break the seal on that.

And if, "Alexa, add [item] to grocery list" adds the item to an Amazon grocery list that syncs with other Alexa devices and an Amazon cloud list somewhere... well I may be tempted to jump in with both feet.

Schrewd
Picking up this thread - as someone coming from a pretty air tight Apple ecosphere - is there any "elegant" way to integrate what I already have set up with Apple/Mac OS to get some functionality with my current contact list, shopping list, messages, etc without having shove a square peg in a round hole? BTW, I have emailed CS to add my name to the chorus begging them to give the option of CarPlay. The more they hear from us, the better, IMHO.

Amazon owns 20% of Rivian and has given them much needed street cred with the order for 100,000 EV delivery vans. You may not be an Alexa fan, but no Amazon partnership, probably no Rivian. Amazon seems quite serious about the automotive space in general. The Dodge/Jeep/Fiat world has signed on: Rivian still maintains Amazon partnership despite new deal with Stellantis (teslarati.com) Bad headline, btw...the deal had nothing to do with Rivian. Best hope is probably the EU push for interoperability....which Apple really doesn't like (breaks the walled garden)

No matter how many commands or skills they add, I don't know if they'll ever top Tesla's "open butthole" to access the charge port.

Thanks, and I get it, but I still wonder if someone will create a 3rd Party solution to bridge the gap so existing, everyday apps can function together without maintaining two separate databases (Calendar, Contacts, Reminders, etc)

This is going to be forced by the EU at some point...nobody wants to lose the European market...not that they are altruistic, they want the German and Swedish software guys to have a way in...

Wait, does that mean Amazon Music is available, or is it just playing from your Bluetooth connected phone?
For me, it plays through the LTE connection and the clarity is noticeable...the icon changes on the music window that slides out for Amazon Music from just the image of a cell phone. I don't have my truck to take a pic.

Alexa supports Apple Music as a skill on the Echo... So is it explicitly excluded in the Rivian for some reason? Also, for any other music besides Spotify, Can you control the songs/playlists via the screen in the car once Alexa learn's the skill for that music service? Or do you just get to say "Alexa, Play Pandora" and it'll play whatever the heck it pleases and that's it?

And Alexa supports integration with Apple, Google, and Microsoft Outlook calendars. As I don't have my R1T yet, I can't say how this relates to Alexa integration as implemented by Rivian.

Perhaps someone who has a vehicle and uses Alexa aggressively can test?
