Seems reasonable. Was just hoping to correct my mistake. Apr 2019 reservation. Am a tesla owner and feel like you should always get the most range available so went for the Max pack instead of the LE
If you stick with the Max Pack, you may be happier than I am sticking with the Launch Edition. Many here (and you know who you are) will likely chime in with "Range is King!" comments.

Honestly, if you need it, you need it. You won't be disappointed when you have 40 miles of range left to go 25 miles to the next charger. At that point, we'll have visited for about the last 60 miles. You'll already be sick of hearing me say "Thank you, thank you, thank you for picking me up back there!" ?

Or hopefully Thank you for doing a vehicle to vehicle charge to get me to the charger...LOL

That would be better yet, but I'll have to revise my example so that we both don't roll to a stop before getting to that charger. Still, I hope V2V does become a reality at some point.

Thanks in advance for not leaving me stranded! ?

"sold out" is a construct of Rivian here. They've managed to make new LE's available for people who started working for Rivian after the window closed. We also know they've had LE cancellations that they don't want to backfill with. I can't think of a good reason Rivian couldn't reopen LE for 2018/2019 preorder holders pretty easily, other than trying to avoid incurring losses on wheels and potential paint revenue.
Not sure they did allow more LEs for employees. I think they were preorders that employees had and were able to get the LE when the window was open.

When I did my drive at Agua Dolce one of the team members I spoke with had an R1T ordered but was not sure when he would get it. He was not able to get an LE when he placed the order last spring.

I've seen at least a couple that have received a truck, and as far as I could tell they joined Rivian in 2021.

The field specialist I took my mobile drive with is waiting on his as well. Unless they had field speciists in Seattle in 2020, I'm gonna guess that was also a after the fact LE order.

Which is fine me. But it doesn't seem like a very good excuse to me.

I think I saw that as well but I assumed they went to work for the company after they had placed a preorder. I know a couple of people who applied at Rivian after they placed a preorder but no one that got hired.

I could be wrong, just reporting the interaction I had with the team member.

That's a possibility.

Interesting. I wondered why I hadn't heard that mantra for awhile.

Thanks for the heads up!
Maybe I’m wrong in comforting myself with this but I’m a guy who doesn’t really need the range except for the occasional rd trip. Which even then most of the time I can make on maybe 1 charge or less to NYC/Baltimore/Philly/Pitt/ (the benefit of living in central pa).

At anyrate, sometime ago Rivian was documented as having said they can enable additional range through OTA Updates based on charging and drive behaviors. Like I said, I’m definitely not holding my breath on that but it would be nice to eek another 20 or so miles out.

You're right about that. RJ mentioned it at the end of my ride-along with him. It's something they could do after observing those factors you mentioned. It wouldn't even require a request. One day, you might start out and find an OTA has been used to grant you access to a greater portion of your battery. It may also come if long-term, global results show much less-than-expected degradation of their batteries after millions of miles of total use.

I seem to recall that, in addition to this "permanent" upgrade to a worthy owner, a temporary unlocking might also be available in a pinch. It might be a call to the team and they could allow someone temporary access if, let's say, you need five more miles to get to the nearest station to keep from konking out short of the charger. I gather by the description used that they could then restore the same, original limits in to order to protect the 8 year, 175,000-mile warranty on the battery. This seems fair, especially since the driver just proved they weren't doing the best job of living within the range of their battery and Rivian doesn't want to pay to replace or repair a battery.

Pretty slick setup but, as you stated, best not to bank on it happening, especially not early on. Like any relationship, you've got to earn that trust. Put a ring on it and treat it right!

what can be granted , can also be taken away. Food for thought. Bad review or interaction w a CS ? One day you may start out and find your range has been REDUCED , OTA ?

Tesla has temporarily unlocked additional range for emergencies before, like escaping California wildfires or hurricane evacuation zones. But those look like they had the artificial range limit before unlocking also.
