I had this issue during our recent ~6,000-mile trip from Mississippi to Oregon and back. At least three times a day I would experience the adaptive cruise faulting out of nowhere. No traffic, no interventions or speed adjustments, just a quick flash of a fault notice and max regen with the truck (23 R1T DP Max) going from ~80mph trying to stop.

I brought it into the Memphis service center last week, and they almost immediately wrote me off as a nut case that doesn't know how the system works. I pushed to have them continue investigating and after two full days they said there were some "inactive modules" in the system that they needed to restart to bring back online. Very strange. Also, I guess there were some internal updates that hadn't been completed due to having Wi-Fi and Hotspot active at the same time. Also strange. The CC fault issue happened on my way to the service center from south Mississippi, but after they worked on it on the drive home it didn't happen once. I will keep an eye on it and if it happens again I'll update this post.

Side note - I wish there was a little more persistence on the error messages. By the time I'm comfortable enough to take my eyes from the road to see what the message says it's gone... very frustrating.

I have the same issue when using non-adaptive cruise control when towing.

I had this issue yesterday. I got in to go drive and the driving assist would not initialize. After getting to my destination, I cleaned all the sensors ( I haven't washed the truck in a while ) on the bumpers and wiped off the camera lenses.

got in to leave and dropped the truck into drive and everything initialized as expected. The truck has a funny way to remind me to clean it every now and then..

So, next time this happens, keep the truck clean... lol..

Hi everyone! Thanx for all the assistance on this forum over the last 2.5 years of owning my first EV. I have learned a lot from those with more experience than me.
I have a 22 R1T Quad with about 65,000 miles on it. Recently the cruise and Driver assist has started randomly cutting out. I will be on interstate or if using cruise on a two lane highway and I will get the "take control now". I can restart it and it works well for awhile then same thing. In about 150 miles yesterday I had to restart it 3 times or so. I have not filled out a ticket partly because it is a minor inconvenience more then a serious issue. Also I do not want to take service away from more important issues. I have had very few issues with my R1T. Any ideas?
Same. Since the last update mine has been doing the same thing on a major highway (MA Pike) which I have travelled almost daily with my R1T for 2.5 years now without an issue.
I think it’s likely a software bug that was introduced last update.
I have noticed that if I use gps for the destination (even though I know how to get home), then the issue doesn’t seem to happen….for what that might be worth.

It cuts out on a regular basis. In my recent 2 x-countries, I can not count the times it stopped working on interstates and 2 lane state highways. It ALWAYS re-engaged after dropping off. It's just an inconvenience that hopefully will be corrected in the future.

I've also had frequent driver+ disengagement issues on interstates I've regularly driven (I-93 and I-89 in NH and VT) since the last update. On my most recent drive up for the holiday weekend, I didn't even bother trying driver+, just used the adaptive cruise for speed management.

Hope the next update fixes it, because before this is was pretty reliable except for no coverage in areas where highways are merging, etc.

I’ve been experiencing the same since the last update. When I manage to glance down before it disappears, there’s always a message about a ‘system fault’ that disappears far too quickly. When I’ve been using Highway Assist I also get random failures, but in that case it says something about a truck stopping or something, even though it’s often happened when I’m the only one on the road.

I’ve got a service appointment coming up to look at it, but sadly not for a couple weeks as I’m going to be on the road and can’t get in.

I used to get the "take over" events in the same spots like on I5 in Tacoma, and when there was glare or rain.

Now I get them randomly.

I have just started experiencing this as well. It started after the last update.

Another weird thing that happens with my 2023 R1S is that it hits the breaks and slows
for no obvious reason. Just driving along, and it decides that I am about hit some invisible
object, and breaks. I have it do this along one particular stretch of road several times in
about the same location, so it is "seeing" something, but the road and shoulders are clear.

On Sunny days :Shade from Bridges, trees trigger the fantom braking quite often... I keep my foot ready every time i approach these...

Im getting this a LOT since the latest update. Gen1 R1S 2023.
Cruise gets disabled on regular freeways where it worked flawlessly before. Then I can't enable it for 10-15 mins , and sometimes can never enable it again on that drive.

Please come back on and see what they say after they look at it. I am thinking it will be fixed in an update as it seems the issue appeared after the last update as others have said.
Truck is back.

They ultimately ended up replacing the antenna assembly. I haven't had enough time with the truck using highway assist to determine if the issue is truly fixed. Unclear how they diagnosed the antenna issue, I was not having issues with cellular, GPS, etc. so seems a little suspect...

It also came back with the latest FW, so it will be tough to isolate variables.

I'm curious if folks have noticed reduced occurrence after the latest update?

So here’s an interesting thing. I recently had my R1T in for service, and I brought up this issue. They told me that it’s a known firmware issue that affects certain vehicles, and that it should be solved with a future software update (as well as that another guy who had his truck in at the same time actually had it resolved by replacing the steering wheel… not sure what to make of that).

However, I recently had the frunk tub out to run some wiring (solar panel on hood to keep 12V battery topped up, more details in the thread on vampire drain). While I had the frunk tub out I discovered a void that was full of what looks like it might have been a rodent nest or something. I found no damage, or any evidence of ongoing rodent activity, so I simply cleaned it out and kept going. Since doing that, I have not had any issues with the ACC or HighwayAssist. I obviously can’t say for certain the problem is solved, and it previously would sometimes go quite a long time without issue, nor can I say that this was what potentially solved it, but it is an interesting coincidence. It certainly seems possible that the issue might have been related to overheating of some component due to a lack of airflow that was resolved when I cleaned out this mess or something.

Wow - that is a lot of rodent confetti to not have any other issues related to wire damage.

I am restoring an old Land Cruiser and that much junk is a sure sign that I am about to stumble upon some very sad section or wiring harness.

Happy to hear it resolved your issue though!
