Leasing Model 3 until R3X comes out, but now I have an R2 reservation as well.
In anticipation of (maybe) receiving my R2 next year I wanted to understand the Rivian Adventure Network. I looked up Ohio on the website and saw two charging sites with 6 stalls each. One in Maumee (outside of Toledo) and one in Strongsville (outside of Cleveland). Nothing in Central Ohio, not even by the SC in Groveport? Weird… 🤔

There are a ton of green dots all over the place and I’m assuming that means future sites, but when are they coming? 🤷‍♂️

My name is Mike, and I have a (car) problem
Fairly sure all of the green dots are Tesla Superchargers, as they are the primary NACS stations.

It’s definitely a mix. Zooming in we have 8 Tesla Superchargers in the Greater Columbus Metropolitan Area and I’m pretty sure only 4 of them are V3s that allow non-Tesla vehicle charging. There are 2 IONNA Rechargeries in Southeast Columbus, so the rest have to be random CCS charging stations.

However upon further inspection this is absolutely not enough charging stations for an area that has over 2 million people, many of whom live in apartments without on-site charging. We need apartment complexes to step up and at least install L2 charging.

Agree! One of my girls is a freshman at OSU (her twin sister is at Penn State). We've never had an issue charging in Columbus, but we usually stay in the Blackwell and there are L2 chargers in the Lane Ave garage next door, so I just charge overnight and we're good to go. They're slow - something like 6.2 KW that is split between two chargers so if two people are hooked up you're only getting around 3 KW/HR, but they're cheap and convenient. When we stay someplace else we've used the Tesla chargers at the GetGo Cafe in Grandview Heights. Columbus is about a 400-mile drive for us and we've got our enroute charging nailed so that one 25-minute charge gets us there with about 15% left. If we need a break before we get there we always pick a spot with a charging option so the 10-minute stop isn't wasted.

My OSU girl has our 2016 Highlander and I'm glad she doesn't have to worry about charging, but I really hope it does improve in the next couple of years because when the Highlander gets replaced it will be with an EV.

Nice. It’s great when a charging plan comes together. I like charging at the Worthington Supercharger on Campus View Blvd. They have pull-through stalls and it’s right next to a Chipotle, Starbucks, and a couple local restaurants. I think it’s associated with the Sheetz that’s a short walk away as well. It’s a little creepy behind the dumpsters though, but cheap (usually 35-37 cents kWh off peak) and fast 250kW.

Toyota is going to release a Highlander EV, but I think an R2 would be better for a single student, or anyone for that matter. 😊

You want to use PlugShare, with Hide Tesla Only Locations turned on. Columbus has more than its fair share of DC fast chargers. And they have a lot of level 2 chargers.

If on doesn't have charging available at work or home, you need to rethink owning an EV. Sitting at a charger even once a week is not a fun thing to do (whereas on a trip it's part of a pit stop). Anytime anyone asks me if they should buy an EV, if they don't have access to level 2 charging at work or home, I say no.

And let me take this time to say how sorry I am that you have to reside in that state down south... ;)

I had to do a double take at that comment. Then I saw on your profile that you’re from Michigan. 🤣

I actually do have a way to charge at home despite not having a garage. It’s a pain though.

I’ve been lucky with public charging so far. I typically have to go every 5 days, which was just like my ICE car. The best setup I’ve found is DC fast charging at a grocery store. Such a smart idea.

Pretty easy answer here. Look at the key by clicking on the settings button top left corner:

I was on the website. Didn’t see this. Thanks. I don’t think all of those Tesla Superchargers are compatible though. Maybe there are CCS stations nearby that I’m unfamiliar with.
