Essentially, this will replace the portion of the harness that includes the harness box. The new section will feature an extra plug for an additional Red Panda, giving us access to another bus. That also means we’ll need to run an extra USB-C cable to the secondary port on the Comma.
Thanks for the info. Bad news on needing a 2nd usb C as I assume that makes the magnetic mounts ( I have the beartech) effectively useless as it only makes connection to one USB port.

Yup, unless someone develops a dual USB magnetic mount. I have gerryrigged a system that still uses a magnetic connection at the second USB port so it's not ENTIRELY bad, but definitely not as convenient as it used to be.

Thank you to everyone for their cable routing help! Now I just need to mount the Comma. How particular have you all been in verifying that it is perfectly in the center of the windshield and perfectly level?

There is some latitude in getting it right. It will calibrate once you fire it up. I still would try and get it pretty close to the center so that it tracks in the lane better. I was off by a 1/4 of an inch and it was fine.

I used blue painters tape to line everything up. I then mounted my mount along the edge of the tape as a guide. My windshield was actually off a bit how it was set and that was most of the error.. User error was also a minor factor in retrospect.

Make sure you let it set at least 24 hours after you install the mount before putting the Comma on. Longer (48) is better if you can wait that long.

Also keep in mind that the rear view mirror trim that houses the Rivian's mobileye windshield camera is slightly off center towards the right. Make sure when you mount your comma 3x that you center it on the little hump that leads to the rear view mirror.
If you do that, then the comma will be perfectly in the center of your windshield.

Has anybody had any experience using frogpilot on Comma 3x? I’ve been using a sunny pilot fork and wanted to compare this at least on paper if anyone has any feedback?

Opps. sounds like I‘m going to need some new VHB tape.

It doesn't have to be perfect. How close are you to having it centered? You can always try and remount later if needed.

Almost 20 pages... Is there a COTS plug-and-play product yet? If so, why should I get it?
With any version of Comma you'll have to install the openpilot / forked software on it, so it's not exactly plug and play if you want 100% hands off. But, this is very close to that as installing the software is literally just putting in the path of the software into the unit and letting it download / install itself. Updates are automatically applied as well.

This completely replaces highway assist but also makes it available on every road, hands-free.

So a one-time $1100 and a few taps on the keyboard gets me what Rivian promised Gen1 owners?

And more. MADS has fundamentally changed the way I drive. 😄
