Has anyone installed one of the Xtrusion racks that are 23" / aligned with the cross bar height of the cab? If so, could you share a photo?

Now that the tailgate pad is available I'm wondering which height would still allow me to put my bike in. Before ordering one of the xtrusion racks I'm thinking I would make a mock up version near the tailgate to make sure I could put the bike in. I think the 18" rack would still give me enough space but I'm not 100% sure. Anyone who has the 18" rack installed, can you provide measurements from the bed to the bottom of the horizontal rail and the distance from the tailgate itself.

Thanks!

There was one video a while back where someone had I think 16" and his mountain bike fit under the rack, BARELY. He had to put the bike in sideways to get it in there and his dropper had to be all the way down. Also, the spare tire door opened, BARELY. Since I think that I may be putting more than one bike in frequently, and I wanted total clearance to spare and full view of the bed with the gear guard camera, I went with 19". Still awaiting delivery though, so no pics!

For reference, this is how I’m carrying my bike. In these photos, the dropper post is up. If the dropper is down, I have no doubt that an 18” rack would allow plenty of room. Down the road, I will be getting an 18’’ or 19” rack. BTW, this is a large frame 29er bike. I should also note, I have the bars raised a bit, but they are still well below the spoiler level.

FWIW, I have the rear wheel velcro strapped to the tie down in the bed corner to secure it. The front forks mount is on a piece of plywood sitting on a little rubber mat to protect the bed. Nothing is permanently attached! The bike is super stable. Take the bike out, throw the mount and straps in storage area, and your good to go.

Yeah.. I think even the 18" would work if you put the bike in while closing the tailgate at the same time. Could be a little tricky.. My question is could I lift the bike into the openening between the rack and the tailgate... I'm not so sure about that..

I can do that on a 16" rack. It's more of a hassle then I would want to deal with if I was moving my bike daily, but 95% of my riding is from my house, and it's not that big of a deal to do it the other 5%.

As someone who transitioned from a tailgate pad, I promise you this gets very old very fast. I hurt my arm pretty bad a few months ago and that's all it took to get a hitch rack. I couldn't imagine how annoying it'd be to shimmy at least one, if not more, bikes in there with a bed rack. The quality of life improvement I got cannot be understated. They pretty much last forever, so you can get a deep discount used too. Just my two cents.

Yes, I can see that using a tailgate pad in conjunction with a bed rack could be a serious challenge. With my hefty e-mtb, there would be no way. Even without a bed rack lifting my bike over the tailgate would be a challenge. By removing the front wheel and mounting it in the bed, those issues are resolved - just roll it right in under the rack. Of course, loading more than one bike, this way, may not be possible. Personally, I could not use a hitch rack as it would put my bike in serious jeopardy considering some of the places I go (ground clearance, tight tree lined trails, etc.).

So the 6-8 weeks that it says on their website from order to delivery is fairly accurate it looks like.

What are the dimensions - height and width - of the extrusions?

Hey SingleT- received my XO rack last Friday. I’ll give ya my thoughts. More than you asked for, but hopefully helpful in making your decision.
Son in law and I put together. He’s an engineer & car guy.
Great quality rack. Tight fit and hole cuts. Kinda two man job. Suggest watching install video first.
Got sides installed and had two top crossbars to install. Looked like angle was wrong- didn’t crank down until next day after I called and Facetimed with Jonathon(co-founder). He said crank down- did it and big gap on one side- called Jonathon back and he promptly returned call and we determined they sent wrong corner bracket pieces- Fed Ex- received in 3 days(I live in Kauai). Unfortunately I had departed to Oregon for a month before receipt of new brackets but confident they will fit.
Big deal- you need snub nose hex wrenches for rail bracket install.
I needed a rack. From my research the XO was only option- no Thule or Yakama available at this time.
The bed rack is 23 inches in height to match my roof crossbars. It looks really good.
I will send pic in a month if you are going to wait that long.
