Makes sense for them to move towards a bike rack with more flexibility like this. We looked at those and they seemed nice.

Where the heck did that come from? Says the weight rating is 67 lbs, so those with e bikes could easily use it.

I was actually looking into a Kuat Piston SR already and I saw that Rivian will start selling them too which is awesome.

Excellent. Love my Kuat rack.

Recognizing I’m in the smallest minority, but I really don’t like the 1Up trays mounted to the Rivian cross bars. I can’t seem to get the front wheel to stop wobbling over bumps despite remounting height bar and moving fore and aft arms into different positions. I’m also not running super wide tires at 2.35”. Don’t care for the lack of rack locking to the bars either.

The wobble doesn't affect anything as long as it's actually tight against your tires. I've had a bike jump off the track exactly once when someone else loaded it, still held it in place even though the tire wasn't on the bottom track anymore. I don't think this design would stop that situation, and might actually let the bike come completely out since the 1-up design tends to self-tighten, and I don't think the kuat does.

Still nice to have options.

FYI Kuat also have a hitch adapter for the SR so it gives the flexibility to mount in either location.

Despite the wobble, the bikes are definitely secure though. Almost any bike mount that only touches the tires is going to have that problem, but you could mitigate it by running a strap from the front tire to the downtube so it can't move. As for locking...I bought one of the super long gear guard cables and can lock two bikes with it.

Looking at that manual, the quick connect system seems to use the T-slot track in the bars. But to do that with a tool-less install seems like it wouldn't be strong enough and could be slid off the track. But what do I know. I attached my 1Up racks with hardware that wasn't just a simple hex screw too. I bought two sets of cross bars so I could leave the bike racks on and just swap out if I wanted to use bars for something else...though that second set will have a tent on it next year.

You can buy an adapter to do the same with the 1Up racks as well. Already planned on doing that once I put a tent on a set of crossbars anyway.

FYI, we did just start carrying this rack at electruck4x4.com and it is eligible for the Black Friday/November deal of 10% off. Figured I'd do the service of letting y'all know while it's an option for ya.

The sale price is confusing to me because the price of the Piston SR has always been $498, at least that’s what I’ve always seen direct from them and on Amazon. https://shop.kuat.com/Piston-SR — I might be missing something?

1up sells a rear support lever that locks the wheel in place if it worries you - not sure that is available for the crossbar though.
