I tried going to the web site, but my spam protection blocks it. I use nextdns.io and one of the suggested blocks that I have active is:

whois.com shows emplay.io as registered on Jan 5. I am not making any claims that this is a threat, but just pointing out that you should register DNS domains well before the underlying web site goes live. Brand new domains are filled with scams and malware, so these are blocked by default by the nextdns.io service. I'm sure other malware detection tools look more closely at these NRDs as well.
I mean. I agree with you, but unless his car play module has time travel, not a lot you can do any this now....

Bravo, Alex!

I have a question about the phone connection: is it wireless only or is wired available, too? I think a wired option would be fantastic for those of us with a Connect+ subscription. In addition, if there is pass through charging, then it solves the problem of the sketchy wireless charging pad. Finally, it makes the process of determining which phone to project simple and consistent for those of us with two drivers who often travel together.

I know some people consider the act of plugging a wire in to be something from the Stone Age, but I’ve worked with tech for a long time and in my experience wireless is very convenient but wired is very reliable.

I suspect that Rivian won’t push back much if you provide a solution which ends all the grumbling about CarPlay and Android Auto, requires no development from them, requires no support from them, and gives people a reason to maintain a Connect+ subscription.
The phone connection for AA/CP can be wired or wireless. The wired connection charges SLOWLY (almost more of a maintain) and definitely not an ideal solution if you are running out of juice. With that said, the wireless solution actually runs really well and then you could either charge on the charge pad, through the USB port in the center console, or plug in to the center console outlet in the back seat using a regular brick. EV Play does come with some extra USB ports, so another option is to run a USB cable from it, or, those that are mechanically inclined could even install a USB female plug right in to the lower dash (as some others have done). I like this last idea because there are a whole lot of USB devices you could plug in to it: thumb drives, phone chargers, webcams, etc.

Agreed on Rivian not pushing back. It keeps current customers satisfied, provides future customers a reason to lean towards a Rivian and not something else, and provides far more value to Connect+ subscriptions. The latter reason is probably not at the top of their list because my guess is that they are probably only breaking even on Connect+.

My guess, it's probably like the Chinese made ACP/AA multimedia interface boxes available for older BMWs. You get access to the Rivian's harness, to and from the display, plug those into the aftermarket box. That wireless switcher he mentioned, switches the box between the two environments... Rivian or the box itself. When it's in Rivian UI mode, the box is simply a pass-through.

In BMWs, such boxes uses a long press of the i-Drive menu button to switch between iDrive and ACP/AA. Since there are no physical buttons in the Rivian, the wireless button is necessary.

This is how it's installed in a X5:

I have a device like this for my Model S. It hijacks the rear camera input and allows for an alternate HDMI source. Pretty cool, plus, it uses an unused long press of a steering wheel button to change the input. That module plugs onto the canbus port.

Edit: For reference to OP, I paid around $500 for the device. That may help him get an idea of price when he goes to market.

For clarification, will this work while in motion?

And if so, will the entire functionality (video and gaming) be available while in motion or only certain features (navigation, music, etc.)?
The latter. I realize a lot of us have passengers that would like video-in-motion, but I feel like I have an ethical responsibility to remove that distraction while driving.

That'd be almost a must if the voice control button can be mapped to activate Siri like it does on cars with native CarPlay.
Yes, the voice control button will activate Siri.

With respect to infotainment: I respect the effort to implement your own, but if I use this product it would be 100% for CarPlay. I wouldn't use any of the infotainment features.
That's the beauty of this -- you can do as little or as much as you want with it. Just note that there are a lot of features available both now and in the pipe that extend beyond just entertainment. The whole concept of V2X (vehicle-to-everything) really interests me, and I can see EV Play evolving to incorporate many of those features.

Thanks for letting me know on the price. I'm almost positive it will be less than that.

And no business owner, in their right mind, would be so careless to open themselves up to risk of being sued and held responsible for injuries and fatalities.

Yes, most states have laws against this and vehicle manufacturers generally prevent it in OEM equipment. An aftermarket suppler who allows it is probably on very weak legal standing.

I installed a CarPlay pass thru device on my Cayenne "PCM" screen in 2020 - long press on Navigation button switches the mode. Works really well, including audio streaming and touchscreen. Watching with interest!

Between this and the upcoming port of OpenPilot, it looks like two of Rivian's biggest weaknesses are getting addressed. I'm thrilled since I had given up hope of ever having a decent adas or access to third party apps in my R1T. Don't want to count chickens since neither have shipped but it's hard not to get excited about using Waze and GaiaGPS on the center screen. Bravo!

I signed up. I have installed devices like this in my 2013 Cadillac CTS-V (Navtool > upgraded to aftermarket HU with 100% digital audio to the amps > purchased GROM VL2 just in case...) and 2013 Touareg TDI (iMANauto). The #1 downside to the Navtool was poor audio quality because it was using aux-in with multiple DA/AD conversions. The Touareg one uses factory bluetooth which is good enough, but not great. The interface on those isn't integrated into the OEM system, so listening to FM radio, Sirius, etc. is a bit wonky. With that said, both are FAR better than what came in those vehicles.

Just thinking out loud here, as someone who's blissfully ignorant to how this system will integrate.

Does it HAVE to be one screen or the other?
Any chance you can make it split-screen? (Rivian UX on the left, the AA/CP/ interface on the right?)

I like to look at the telemetry screen while I drive, and depending on the road I'm on, I adjust the stiffness of the suspension in situ. It'd be nice to do that while having Waze running on the right... just my .02. It's fully understandable if that's not reasonable from an integration standpoint.

This is great news, not just for current owners, but also for Rivian and future owners. Having an integrated solution for AA/CP is a great option for the 35% of new car buyers who refuse to buy a vehicle that doesn't have AA/CP. I always said it was a miss for any company to not have native AA/CP, although aftermarket solutions seem to be getting better and better, which might start to flip opinions for people who really want that technology in their new vehicle. So yes, this is great to see and I hope it works well.

Ironically, that's how AA/CP works with the ability to do a split screen for different functions. I typically keep mine on just Waze as 2/3s of the screen and the other 1/3 is whatever music source I choose to play. I like the fact that I can toggle each to go full screen with nothing more than a quick tap on the touchscreen. It would be cool is this new system has similar capabilities as well.
