In an ideal world the ability to choose between the two systems would take place from the Rivian UI - basically another icon on the left side that allowed you to use AA/CP/EVP while all the top (lock/unlock, wifi, etc.) and bottom (HVAC) icons remained. Maybe I'll get there one day!
That'd be the element that becomes the deciding factor for me.
I would literally order 2.

I recently watched the video of someone installing a device like this on his Tesla. It showed ripping off the dash pieces and a great deal of labor. I would be very reticent to do anything that would put me in a position to break a bunch of clips, which I would do and be into some work that I shouldn’t do.
Agreed, which is why this solution doesn't require any of that.

@Alex - EV Play - I would highly recommend against sourcing any production overseas. I've seen a bunch of strength and conditioning companies do just that to save a buck, only to see their designs copied and sold on Temu months later. NDAs and such mean nothing to them.
I would be willing to pay more for something fully produced in the United States.
I hear you both on this but the reality is domestic pcb fabrication and assembly would literally double both the price and lead times. As for knocking it off -- that can happen regardless of where it is manufactured. But as mentioned, the goal is to build amazing software, support, and a community around EV Play which will be difficult to duplicate. The hardware will become a commodity at some point.

I'm a bit more dubious about this than you. Especially when you consider how incredulous Rivian is about 1- aftermarket/non Rivian-owned-SC repairs, 2- side steps and sliders, 3- aftermarket wheels/tires, 4-reticense to allow 3rd party development of replacement parts (12V batteries anyone?)...

THAT said, the real magic would be if you could uninstall this as easily as install it. What I mean is: my truck's in for service. TO save myself the headache of "what if," I just removed my rock sliders. Took less than an hour and will save me the $400 hassle. When I get my truck back, I'll easily reinstall them.

If there's an intermediary harness for this system, and it's simple enough to get to and detach (return Rivian to OEM), no one (Rivian) would be the wiser. THAT would be the best case scenario for avoiding any issues, SO LONG AS the connectors are resilient enough to manage several mate/demate cycles (certain connectors are designed for semi-permanent installation--such as in your washing machine's for example: once it's connected, it's seldom disconnected unless there's a service call. I used to work in the electrical connector industry, so this would be a cautionary concern in my opinion. I'd hate to see a situation where internal pins were bent during uninstall thus rendering the center screen completely inoperable, or worse--crossing 12V and ground or comms and shorting the system).
I’ve got rock sliders as well, the EV Sportline sliders for Gen2. What has motivated you to remove them before a Rivian service appointment, other than your (above) rational that Rivian is incredulous to 3rd party products/services? Have you read any threads or heard of Rivian having issues with sliders on leased vehicles? Where’s the $400 charge coming from? Any info is helpful; I have a service appointment on Feb 11th and just started my lease on a Gen2 in December…so I’m kind of new to this support website too.

Google search is your friend, my friend:

https://www.rivianforums.com/forum/...-if-needed-to-warranty-service-vehicle.36233/

https://riviantrackr.com/news/rivia...to-know-before-your-next-service-appointment/

There have been several individuals who have had issues because Rivian's stance on aftermarket is that they don't want to take on the liability to service with them. There are people who have had success (really, non-issues) at certain service centers. There have been others who have either ponied up the $400 to have Rivian remove their sliders or just showed up and removed them in the SC parking lot to avoid the fees.

In my opinion, it's nonsense when you have EV sportline (or similarly engineered sliders) who maintain the factory jack points.

I could sort of understand the rationale that it doesn't *technically* match up to *exactly* where the jack points are on the vehicle itself, all things being equal.

It's going to come down to 1- what's the nature of your service (do they need access to anything adjacent to the sliders) and 2- who is/are the tech(s) working on your vehicle and what's their level of consideration?

I probably didn't need to remove my sliders. But I'd rather do it, because $400 is a big deal to me.
Furthermore, to note: from what I've read, that $400 is to REMOVE the sliders. They're not reinstalling them. SO, you're out $400 AND then have to reinstall your own sliders anyway.

FWIW: When I had scheduled my service, I specifically asked the service advisor I was on the phone with if I needed to remove them for my specific repair. Their non-committal response was that they needed to be removed *IF THE SERVICE CENTER DEEMED IT NECESSARY* to complete the service. How am I supposed to predict their assessment?

Further, it's not uncommon for you to take your truck in for a dash rattle and suddenly a TSB to replace a jounce line or tighten hub bolts comes up. So, you can gamble with the techs concerns about having to put your truck on a lift and using the sliders.

WE all know it's safe, but Rivian's just not gotten there from a maturity standpoint, quite yet...

I have a Gen1, but not leased, and have megawatt rock sliders on it; it's gone through several separate appointments at the SC including many suspension related work for which they needed to lift it on multiple occasions (jounce lines, dampers replaced, hub knuckle bolt tightening, etc). They didn't need to remove the rock sliders, nor said anything about them. I'm sure it can happen where for some reason or another they want it off, but just sharing my experience to date.

Just wanna share my experience where I did have to pay $400 to remove my rock sliders for a SC visit (see my post here for more details):
  • The cost included removal and reinstallation of the rock sliders (at least for me it did).
  • They only required removing the rock sliders in order to access and do some significant warranty-covered subframe and motor unit replacement work.
  • They let me know about the added charge before doing the work so that I had the option to decline the work.
  • I have had previous SC visits for other warranty-covered repairs that didn't require access to hardware blocked by the rock sliders, and they didn't give me any grief about keeping the rock sliders on.
Of course, YMMV depending on the SC.

Almost a week without an update... ;) tsk, tsk, tsk.
Sorry about that, I will try and be better with updates! I just replied to all that emailed me in the last week or so. Things are going really well. Still working on the touch screen functionality but had huge a breakthrough over the weekend. It is really the last piece of the puzzle on the software side. I have the latest prototype being assembled this week. All in all things are progressing well!

Alex, when you get a chance, take another video showing a little more of AA and Carplay in action. It looks very good. I'm looking forward to an update and timelines.

I'd love to have the bottom bar with climate control, etc, to stay on screen all the time.
