Ironically, that's how AA/CP works with the ability to do a split screen for different functions. I typically keep mine on just Waze as 2/3s of the screen and the other 1/3 is whatever music source I choose to play.
That's not what the the question was, they were asking if the OEM interface can be split on the screen with AA or CP.

Hello everyone, my name is Alex and I've been working over the past 5 months to get Apple CarPlay and Android working on my Rivian center display. I'm happy to announce that I have recently cracked the code, and I'm currently trying to bring this functionality to all Rivian owners. To do this, I have created an Android-based hardware device called "EV Play," which I'll be producing and selling in the next month or so.

While working on this process, I started to realize that EV Play could be a lot more than just CarPlay and Android Auto. The Rivian screen and sound system are amazing, and so the project quickly morphed in to a full-blown infotainment system.

At the end of the day, I certainly don't have all the answers. And so in addition to the physical device I would like to eventually build a community where all of us can discuss new ideas and propose new features.

I still have a few bugs to work out, but I'm pretty close to getting them resolved. In the meantime, I have put up a website with a short video I made, along with some additional information and an interest form. It is located here. Please help spread the word on other sites and groups, as this is a very exciting time for Rivian owners.

Here is the video as well:

I have to leave for my job but I'll try to get to the boards later in the day, should you have questions. The website also has my email address if you need to reach out. I expect a fair amount of messages so your patience is appreciated.

Cheers,
Alex

Woah. Have you been able to message using apple play, yet?

I wonder how much teardown of the vehicle will be required to get the video input output of this "device" to display on the Rivian main screen?

(edited for correction)

Looks familiar. I believe there was a similar solution with Tesla. It’s via the browser and there was some latency. Let’s see. Good Luck.
Yea, I used one of those in my previous Model S, when it worked, it was great, when it didn't connect or was laggy, it was frustrating.

I recently watched the video of someone installing a device like this on his Tesla. It showed ripping off the dash pieces and a great deal of labor. I would be very reticent to do anything that would put me in a position to break a bunch of clips, which I would do and be into some work that I shouldn’t do.

@Alex - EV Play - I would highly recommend against sourcing any production overseas. I've seen a bunch of strength and conditioning companies do just that to save a buck, only to see their designs copied and sold on Temu months later. NDAs and such mean nothing to them.

I would be willing to pay more for something fully produced in the United States.

The latter. I realize a lot of us have passengers that would like video-in-motion, but I feel like I have an ethical responsibility to remove that distraction while driving.

Yes, the voice control button will activate Siri.

That's the beauty of this -- you can do as little or as much as you want with it. Just note that there are a lot of features available both now and in the pipe that extend beyond just entertainment. The whole concept of V2X (vehicle-to-everything) really interests me, and I can see EV Play evolving to incorporate many of those features.
Why not just provide a legal disclaimer about video in motion telling users to obey their local laws and about the safety implications of using it and give the users the choice?

Because it’s illegal, the OP has mentioned that a few times already.

Clue: if that was legally adequate all OEMs would have done it already

Just thinking out loud here, as someone who's blissfully ignorant to how this system will integrate.

Does it HAVE to be one screen or the other?
Any chance you can make it split-screen? (Rivian UX on the left, the AA/CP/ interface on the right?)

I like to look at the telemetry screen while I drive, and depending on the road I'm on, I adjust the stiffness of the suspension in situ. It'd be nice to do that while having Waze running on the right... just my .02. It's fully understandable if that's not reasonable from an integration standpoint.

Ironically, that's how AA/CP works with the ability to do a split screen for different functions. I typically keep mine on just Waze as 2/3s of the screen and the other 1/3 is whatever music source I choose to play. I like the fact that I can toggle each to go full screen with nothing more than a quick tap on the touchscreen. It would be cool is this new system has similar capabilities as well.
In an ideal world the ability to choose between the two systems would take place from the Rivian UI - basically another icon on the left side that allowed you to use AA/CP/EVP while all the top (lock/unlock, wifi, etc.) and bottom (HVAC) icons remained. Maybe I'll get there one day!

Yes, and the integration with CP and Siri works surprisingly well, even when connected wirelessly.
