I hope they get their crap together before my number is up. I really hate to pass up on R1S for this but I will if they don’t. Not just because I hate waste but because I just don’t know what else they may think is “normal” in Normal.
To put a little perspective around that number of 10 kWh a day In vampire drain.

I use less than 15 kWh a day to power a 4 bedroom house.

A 28 cubic foot energy star refrigerator only uses 2 kWh a day. That vampire drain could power 5 - 28 cubic foot refrigerators, there is no way that could be considered normal. .

My PC has a 1kW psu. If i loaded it to the max it would pull 24 kWh a day.

Your mileage may vary.

Also the 10kW was with gear guard.

I hear what you are saying but I still say it is too much draw for an idle vehicle even with gear guard.

I have a security camera/DVR that records on motion, can view remotely and send alerts.

I have them on smart plugs that log the power consumption.

1 house is 8 cameras and draws between 8 and 10 kWh a month
1 house is 5 cameras and draws between 7 and 9 kWh a month.

Not the same thing. Typically your security camers will have a pir sensor to first detect motion. They then wake up and start recording.

Pir sensor use essential 0 energy.

I assume rivian is just running the cameras and doing image recognition for the gear guard.

Trying to conceptualize these units a bit...

kw = rate of energy use (power)
kwh = energy (volume). aka running something at a sustained 1 kw for an hour.

I would escalate that up the chain. That should not be considered normal. At 22 cents a Kw for me that is 60 dollars a month. My Tesla Model S would not lose 10 kw in 2 weeks Through vampire drain.
Totally agree. Not sure how wasting up to 10kWh/day is helping save the planet as Rivian claims is one of its goals as a company?

Thank you. The interchanging of KW and KWh is killing me. KW is power, like you are powering something that uses 2 kw. KWh is energy which is the amount of energy your house uses in a day. Your truck doesn’t use 10kw a day, it uses 10kwh a day.

I'll admit that my eye was starting to twitch a bit. Alas, as long as someone doesn't call concrete cement I think I'll survive. ;)

Your PC may have a 1kW power supply, but that much energy would almost never be required. It is overkill for the energy hogs in the computer like the CPU and GPU, and it will almost never operate anywhere near 100% (like benchmarking apps that do max testing on the graphics card and CPU) or your computer will overheat and die. When not in use, the computer should sleep using almost nothing.

The R1T is a 7000 pound computer on wheels, and software engineers need to get to work on this pronto, or there are going to be a whole lot of unhappy customers. Apartment dwellers without ability to plug in at home will be out of luck, and Rivian will be spending a lot of $$$ towing away R1T's that are bricked. Not to mention how inefficient and expensive this is...10 kWh a day is huge, even with gear guard on! Rivian needs to call MS or Apple or somebody with some software expertise, and fix this!

I won't finalize my two orders until it's fixed. It's a grotesque waste of energy.

Sorry if this has been mentioned before but I think I read somewhere there is something like a transport mode. Can an owner verify if it exist, what the power consumption is and how long it takes to get out of it? What the downsides of using it would be?
