Depending on how it ends up working, this could be a huge win for buyers.

Assuming that Amazon handles the payment portion of the transaction then there wouldn't be any room for dealers to play games with hidden feels and unnecessary dealer installed extras.

By the time you first interact with the dealer the transaction is complete so the dealers would have to complete with each other out in the open. Whichever dealer offers the lowest price will get 100% of the sales. And because of that, I am skeptical that they would ever go for it.

After Xiaomi launched their own car brand I am not surprised about the news with Amazon at all.

Xiaomi's car brand is a head-turner for sure! With tech giants pushing boundaries, it makes perfect sense for Amazon, the online retail king, to potentially eye the car market. I wonder what their strategy would be – electric vehicle focus or a mix? An online-first approach could be a game-changer for car buying. This influx of non-traditional players is shaking things up, and it'll be interesting to see how the dynamics shift. More competition usually benefits us consumers in the end, right?

Monopolies, unless there's strong oversight (which is impossible where dollars buy votes), are pretty much never good for the consumer.

Xiaomi coming into the electric vehicle market is very interesting, with a cost that is lower than Tesla's Model 3. The look of it is nice, but I have doubts about choosing this brand for my car. It is often smart to pause and observe the performance of these vehicles in actual driving situations before coming to a conclusion.

Any Chinese made device that can collect telemetrics from secured areas in the US or otherwise be remotely controlled and/or weaponized should be prohibited. Subsidizing by the CCP to affect domestic EV production is an ancillary reason to tell them to eff off.
