There was an interview with RJ last month that indicated that R2T was a possibility so not surprised given compact trucks are becoming more popular.

It's also a good idea to hold onto trademarks that are very similar to ones that you actively use, just to be safe. So there may be no intent to produce a R2T, but you don't want to leave the trademark available in case some other company decides to make a crappy version and use it themselves....

Either they don't know what they are doing or they truly plan to use the trademark. I say that because it is not an "intent to use" application but one on the "principal" register. This type of registration requires a use statement based on actual use in interstate commerce and they failed to submit one (because we all know it's not a real product yet). That's why it went abandoned.

Normally, one files an intent to use application that affords extensions and then converts it to an actual use application. So, I am confused why they went to a full application - hence wondering what's going on since the attorney is from a reputable law firm in SoCal.

Given the good firm involved, my speculation is that R2T is going to be a real product!

After driving a pickup and enjoying it for the last week, and all of the issues related to suspension on the R1, if the R2T existed, I would buy it immediately.

Probably because I was thinking about registering it...

Maybe I can still sneak "RTOOTY" through the Trademark office though?

You and me both. I'd love a truck that could fit in my garage. My R1T is just inches too long.
