Traded in my G1 Quad for G2 Quad, and after 10 days, thought I might offer some first hand observations! I got the G1 pre price increase so, with the trade in value they gave me, was not terribly painful for the upgrade (guess about the same as buying a new loaded Sierra Denali with a much lower trade-in value on the R1).
All in, definitely an upgrade...worth the $...jury is still out.....
Any questions, feel free to ask!
- -Gen2 Motors are dramatically quieter; the pronounced whine on the G1 is completely gone. Can barely hear the motors now....so MUCH quieter in-cabin experience
- -Gen2 Heat pump seems to be more effective at cooling than the tradition G1 system; have not had to use heat yet, but much faster cool-down cycle for the cab. Can't comment on battery efficiency, but if it were to be net/net same, much more effective climate system.
- -Definitely more power; a bit too much actually...feels like a friggin' mag lev roller coaster on launch!
- -No tank turn update yet; so no party tricks (siiiggghhhh), which come one, is the only real reason to buy one? ;-)
- -Road manners are dramatically better; less jarring, smoother steering, and way less rattling over bumps. I'd say much closer to a luxury vehicle experience
- -STILL SUCKS that they can't have hands free texting...the 2022 Nissan Maxima I rented last month had it built in...so, seriously? Come on Rivian, how hard can it be?
- -The wireless charger triggers my phone to verify NFC payment every time I set it down...which seems to be new phone (maybe Pixel) specific, but a total PITA. Rivian service totally useless on this one (just reboot the system, which is the stock answer I know, does nothing).
- -Ascend interior is really well done; can't say what is different other than seat stitching, but just feels more lux
- -Same stupid Scorpion tires, so those will probably wear out in 10K like my last ones did, and I'll get the K03s which were WAYYY better in terms of wear and handling (though slightly louder).
All in, definitely an upgrade...worth the $...jury is still out.....
Any questions, feel free to ask!
