Rivian Announces New East Coast Headquarters in Atlanta

Rivian R1T R1S Rivian Announces East Coast Rivian HQ to Open in Atlanta! Exterior_3_-_Rivian_ATL_HQ_ynzy8y

500-person office space to complement new, state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Georgia

ATLANTA (July 17, 2025) — Rivian, Georgia Governor Brian Kemp, and Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens today announced the American electric vehicle company will establish a new East Coast Headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia as part of its landmark investment in the state. The office will open in late 2025, followed by further expansion in 2026 as construction accelerates at the company’s new manufacturing site in Social Circle, just outside the city.

Rivian will occupy the top floor and lobby of Portman Holdings' Junction Krog District building at 667 Auburn Ave NE, adjacent to the famous Eastside Trail of the Atlanta Beltline—easily accessible by public transportation. Rivian expects to employ around 100 people at the site by the end of 2025, with around 500 people at the new headquarters when fully built.

“We are excited to establish our East Coast head office in Atlanta,” said Rivian Founder and CEO RJ Scaringe. “Atlanta embodies so much that makes Georgia great—top talent, exceptional creativity, and a desire to always be moving forward.”

“Georgia is a prime location for any company headquarters, and we’re glad to see Rivian will soon join the growing list of brands not only operating in our state but also wholly or partially based in our capital city,” said Governor Brian Kemp. “They recognize the unmatched value of Georgia’s talent and the location of their East Coast Headquarters in Atlanta is the latest demonstration of their commitment to the Peach State. I look forward to that commitment translating to new jobs and opportunities for hardworking Georgians.”

“Atlanta continues to lead in EV innovation and technology integration, and Rivian’s growing presence here reinforces our city’s role in shaping our future economy. The opening of this new office and event space reflects how Atlanta continues to engage the community in bold, creative ways," said Mayor Andre Dickens. "Thank you to the Rivian team for investing in our city and calling Atlanta home."

Rivian has invested significantly in the Peach State, beginning with its plans to build a 7,500-person manufacturing facility in Stanton Springs North, near Social Circle. Since then, the company has continued to develop strong relationships in the state and plans to establish partnerships with universities, technical colleges, and local, regional, and state institutions as it scales.

So let me get this straight. Rivian Said we will put our East Coast HQ in the South with nothing from NYC to FL along the actual east coast.

Cool

I don't think I'll ever be fully on-board with any of their operations in Georgia. I'm a bit concerned about them spending this much money when they're already doing layoffs. And we just saw the current administration claw back $9 billion in funds to public broadcasting, foreign aid, etc. Every day I'm waiting for "the other shoe to drop" when they move to claw back Rivian's $6.6 billion loan.

Then there's the people. The EV-hating, anti-progress, anti-Rivian groups in that area and on social media are thousands strong. The amount of vitriolic - literal insanity and nonsense - coming from these groups is *strong*. Call me bitter, but I don't think they "deserve" a high tech manufacturing facility. Give them more endless strips of worthless check-cashing places and pawn shops, instead. Or CBD dispensaries and vape shops. Or casinos and trailer parks. Heck, let them have a data center to pollute their air, water, and provide no economic benefits to the community, instead. It's like what they don't understand: you can't fight developers. I'd rather see trees and forests, too. But developers have too much money; something is going to get built on that land. Pick the lesser evil. Would you rather have a high tech manufacturing center? Or a bunch of sh**y dollar stores?

I hope for the best. I really do. But I honestly wouldn't put it past some of these "people" to get jobs there just to sabotage the factory. 😡

I'm no fan of Atlanta or its immediate surrounds, but this is a pretty poor characterization for that area, even to me. This is exactly the type of characterization that people think of when protesting "coastal elites."

Whether you like the Atlanta metro and its denizens or not, it has established itself as a major commercial and transportation hub. Locating the east coast HQ near the future primary manufacturing site is a very logical choice.

Sorry. This opinion comes from actual interactions with them. I know "they" are not all like that, but man. Go talk to some of the people in the anti-Rivian groups and see if it doesn't make your head spin.

#shrug 🤷

Editing to add: I'll probably find it pretty amusing if/when Rivian does succeed in that area, and all the people who were ranting about "burn it down" now start tripping over themselves to get good paying jobs there. That will be pretty ironic. 😊

Ah, ok. So based on your interactions with a vanishingly small representative population the entire metro should be deprived of economic development and opportunity.

That makes it all better.

I wonder which Georgia politician/lawmaker/lobbyist "just happens to own" the land Rivian bought for the new East Coast (and yeah, ATL isn't even close to the East Coast) HQ?

Porsche NA HQ and Mercedes NA HQ are both in Atlanta. So, obviously, vehicle industry talent is in Atlanta and it will be easy to poach.

Hyundai/Kia has one of the worlds largest EV manufacturing facilities just down the road outside of Savannah.

Rivian's giant future plant is under construction just outside of Atlanta.

Savannah and Brunswick, GA are major vehicle ports. In fact, Brunswick, GA is currently the largest Roll on Roll off vehicle port in the United States, so I am hoping they start shipping BOATLOADS of R2's overseas.

As someone who currently lives in Rural Georgia, I can tell you people absolutely HATE EV's here, and are mostly clueless about them. Atlanta; I have no idea, I stay away from there.

Rivian just bought a one-way ticket out of CA. Over short period of time, the HQ will move from CA to GA. Much lower cost of doing business.
Yep. this ^^

They probably looked at Texas but given they have the factory going up in GA then why not move the whole shooting match.

In other news, for those in CLT i've spotted what looks like a big new SC being fitted out. Hopefully no more 8hr round trips to Richmond or ATL.

I love rural areas lot more than urban. The air just smells better and I find the pace of life slightly less hurried. Unfortunately, my wife loves the city.

It's a shame that we got to the point of hating inanimate objects. There used to be a preference but now it has to be one extreme or another. I wish society could approach topics with an open mind and be respectful to other's opinions.

Rivian just made it THAT much harder for the congressional delegation from GA to vote away any subsidies for cars, or to claw back money from loans to Rivian. With about 8,000-10,000 people employed in the state with good paying jobs spread across 2-3 congressional districts, that's enough to make the representatives think 2x about any job killing measures there.

Exactly acting like an east coast elite and tracks with his location. A real shame people cannot get passed their “hate” for others.

Lol. Manassas Park is suddenly "East Coast elite"? You got jokes. 🤣

Regardless, these people in Social Circle actively hate us. They hate us. As someone else who's familiar with the area also already mentioned. I know better than to build my house in a neighborhood surrounded by people who wish to burn it down. Or build an EV factory in a deep red district.

Did you even do any research into why they've been tied up in lawsuits for years? The factory could have already been built and producing cars if it was even a few miles down the road.

Like I said. I hope for the best. But I'm not going to spread love for a town full of people who came out publicly and said they want to burn the factory down. if you don't see the cause for concern in that... Well. #shrug 🤷
