Rivian's got a real winner on its hands but I expect Chinese manufacturers to pick up on the design and bring copycats to market early.

It is very cool, and the R3X is impressive in its detail and style. Hopefully, it is everything the model is. If so, there is a good chance that the R3X will replace the wife's car.

Honestly the more I look at the R3, and the more I see about the state of the EV market, the more I wonder whether it wouldn't be better to put out the R3 first and then the R2.

The Horizon won European Car of the Year in 1979, ahead #2 Fiat and #3 Audi 80. And look at the surrounding winners - the Porsche 928 won the previous year. Pretty impressive when you put it in that persepctive.

To me, it looks like my first car, and could be considered a spiritual successor: Subaru Justy,

The 4WD hatchback. (Not so "hot" though, with its underpowered 3 cylinder 80 horsepower engine. But it felt far more stable at 80 MPH than my college roommate's Geo Metro did, and got 40 MPG at 80 MPH, to boot. Whereas my roommate's Metro felt like 80 was its absolute limit, and it was going to vibrate apart at any moment. And it was quite capable off-road.)

Except a tri-motor R3X could have a possible 850hp or so.

bear in mind that 80’s Group B Rally cars were up to “only” 600 hp with tons of turbo lag. Now, the weight difference is huge to be sure between a race-spec rally car and a street legal EV, but the fact remains that a possible 850hp available in the hands of moderate budget street drivers is unthinkable back in the 80’s.

What will be the top speed of this monster if it's intended as a performance car? Our 190hp beater BMW has a higher top speed than anything rivian has produced.
