Getting excited/prepped for delivery of my R1S (hopefully Q3/4 this year...)!

What's the best Level 2 home charging experience, and why? I'm tempted to just lob the Rivian charger into my "shopping cart" when I pay for the vehicle, but I'm curious if there are other, better solutions out there for a vehicle with a battery this big.

A few details:
- I will have to have a new circuit run out to my garage regardless since it's currently only 120v
- Vehicle will be mostly parked outdoors, just on the outside of the garage door (should we install charger outside the garage, or should we run the cable under the garage door?)
- Vehicles to charge will be primarily R1S for not-quite-daily driving, and occasional Teslas from visiting family members
I use this Emporia one at my houses, can plug in or be hardwired for up to 48 amps. Just use the adapter when charging my Tesla. $399 at Amazon, supported out of Colorado.

Bang for the buck hardwire, the Tesla J1772 EVSE. For your visiting teslas should have an adapter. The Tesla's do load balancing too, but I think I read that they had to be on separate circuits (which doesn't make much sense)
For the older Gen II Tesla Wall Connector to enable load sharing one EVSE is set as a "leader" and three power leads run out from it's internal power terminal block to the next EVSE that will be set (via rotary switch on it's PC board) to "Follower". You can run up to four Tesla EVSE's off one circuit in this load sharing configuration.

For the current Gen III Tesla Wall Connector load sharing they all connect to a common junction box and communicate with each other via WiFi. You can run up to 6 Gen III Wall Connectors off one circuit in this configuration.

The actual “brains” if your charging system resides in your R1S. The wall charger just sends it some amperage . Don’t over-think this stuff. The Rivian wall charger is just fine! (Unless of course, somebody knows of a weather-proof lash up, for outdoor use)

I have the Rivian charger hard wired to 60 amp circuit. I had electrician hard wire it. It is in covered area under my house where I park. It works great - no problems.

Check with your electric utility, I had to use a specific wifi capable model to take advantage of off peak discounts and a $700 rebate. The Charge Point Home Flex is usually one that they support.
I got the Charge Point Flex for free (including installation) from my utility. Works great and app tracks usage.

I was trying to wait until V2G had been standardized. But not sure what you could do in the meantime.

Another Chargepoint happy camper. The 18' cable is a godsend, can easily wrap around the truck so don't have to reverse in

We are using the Rivian wall charger. We bought it with the truck. We have it installed just inside the garage on the post between two if the garage doors. It can be used either inside or outside of the garage. We most often park the R1T on the driveway outside of the garage.

So far it has worked very well. The only minor gripe that I have is that the charger's software will only work with a single smartphone.

Our Rivian wall charger is wired into a 60 amp breaker. We also installed a separate 14-50 outlet on a 50 amp breaker at the same location.

We are serviced by a rural electric cooperarive. They do not offer any differential rates. They do ask that members try to charge EV's at low demand times.

I have both the Juicebox and the Rivian chargers in my garage. I like the Rivian charger for the R1S because you don't need any extra features in the charger itself. The Rivian UI is good and takes care of all of the scheduling, etc, features. My wife has an Audi etron and the UI in the car for charging is very confusing, so she benefitted from the Juicebox having all of the necessary scheduling features built into the app. Hope this makes sense. Summary: for Rivian vehicle, Rivian charger works great and only requires one app.

I have 2 OpenEVSEs. I won't buy anything else (until a DC direct from solar and bidirectional charger comes out).
Blast from the past.
I have an OpenEVSE that I built from a kit about 8 years ago. Mounted outside house before I built garages. Still works and I use it occasionally. (But not this Spring since the Bluejays were using it as a nesting site.)
New ones Connect to charging network or Home automation system with MQTT or the Open Charge Point Protocol OCPP 1.6J.

Another vote for the Tesla J1772. I like that it is easy to "future proof" in case we end up getting another EV (tesla or otherwise) we will be able to add another Tesla charger to the same circuit and they can communicate and load share.
We have our charger mounted inside the garage but exclusively charge outside. I ran the charging cable run behind the garage door track and under the facade so the garage door doesnt eventually damage the cable. I then have a mount on the outside of the house so the handle and charge cable can be stored neatly.
