Getting excited/prepped for delivery of my R1S (hopefully Q3/4 this year...)!

What's the best Level 2 home charging experience, and why? I'm tempted to just lob the Rivian charger into my "shopping cart" when I pay for the vehicle, but I'm curious if there are other, better solutions out there for a vehicle with a battery this big.

A few details:
- I will have to have a new circuit run out to my garage regardless since it's currently only 120v
- Vehicle will be mostly parked outdoors, just on the outside of the garage door (should we install charger outside the garage, or should we run the cable under the garage door?)
- Vehicles to charge will be primarily R1S for not-quite-daily driving, and occasional Teslas from visiting family members

I don't know, but it has worked well for us. We had an electrician run a 60amp circuit and install the charger so we can run it at its full potential. We've had no issues with it and run the cord out of the garage with the charge set for overnight.

Check with your electric utility, I had to use a specific wifi capable model to take advantage of off peak discounts and a $700 rebate. The Charge Point Home Flex is usually one that they support.

Best in terms of Rivian app integration. The rest of it, aside from aesthetics, nothing unique. Others, with their own apps, can be had for less. And FWIW, the charger is built into the EV. These wall units are just power supply (EVSE).

After the first week or so, haven't looked at the EVSE in the app, so in hindsight, integration isn't a selling point for me.

Just adding that the Rivian charger works with the Rivian app. So you don't have to install another extra app on your device (if that matters to you).

I have the Rivian charger and like it, just remember to set the dip switches correctly the first time or you'll have to call Rivian for a reset. Personally I wouldn't run a cord under a door. Maybe a covered or partially covered area outside (if you're certain you're not going to be parking your R1S in the garage)?

Bang for the buck hardwire, the Tesla J1772 EVSE. For your visiting teslas should have an adapter. Given that your Rivian will do the vast majority of the charging, you won't have to worry about a NACS to J1772 adapter failing/shorting out on you if you go with the J1772 version.

If you ever want to install a second EVSE don't want to run a second circuit look at ones that do load balancing such as Juicebox.
The Tesla's do load balancing too, but I think I read that they had to be on separate circuits (which doesn't make much sense)

If you're confident the R1S will always (or almost always) be parked outside, I'd install the charger outside rather than run it under the door. The cable on the Rivian charger is quite thick compared to other chargers. If you need to run it under the door, I'd go with the Tesla J1772 (much thinner cable) and use something like the Undor to protect it. https://undorgarage.com/?v=7516fd43adaa
The channel in the Undor isn't quite wide enough to accommodate the Rivian charger cable.

ChargePoint Home Flex is one of the best L2 chargers on the market.

You should also check with your locally utility provider for any discounts or bill credits applicable with certain connected chargers.

I've had my Rivian charger lock up a handful of times requiring me to trip the breaker to reset it. Still not sure why though.

both my Tesla and Emporia charger is in my garage and my vehicles are parked outside (garage is packed). I didnt have any issues with the cable size under the door, closed without issues.

Honestly, there isn’t really much of a significant difference between the Rivian branded charger and others. Get whichever one is cheapest. I do t think any of the “smart” features add much value.

I originally had a 14-50 outlet installed in my garage when I got my Tesla. It worked fine with my mobile charger. I had planned to use my Rivian mobile charger as well, but my Rivian came with a dud mobile charger.

I now have a Grizzle Duo. It works just fine. No better or worse than other options on the market.

Tesla J1772 by a mile. It’s not close.
