Yes. I am looking forward to the release of the extension cord. This will be extremely helpful when you run into stations with only 8 chargers on holidays like Labor Day or Thanksgiving.

Hopefully we can still use the forum discount code "RIV" to save some $$$ and get free shipping.

I plan to buy one as soon as it's available and will post up my review on it.

I'm doubtful these will ever see the light of day. Needs a ton of wire to be capable of 500A with only passive cooling. Disconnecting the control pilot as overtemp protection means they won't be reliable for charging in a vehicle you can't control the DC charge rate otherwise.

I think they will come ...but there will be a charging speed limitation. Don't expect to draw 220 kwh through one of them. I expect the speed will be significantly limited with these but it beats not being able to charge at all.

Of course the long term solution is to retrofit stations with V4 ...at least the dispensing equipment to eliminate the charge port location issue.

9' seem excessive. And it could be obsolete if Tesla upgrade their sites with longer cables or V4. So the question is what are Tesla's plans now that it's halted expansion? No one knows.

Would Tesla even allow use of one of these? If Rivian and Tesla has heartache about 3rd party adapters, hard to see them being ok with an extension cord which I think might have more room for bad things to happen.

Not likely. Tesla had shown an upcoming extension cord on their site at one point (don't see it now).

Tesla does not need longer cables or V4 for most cars. If they would stripe their stations where the chargers are in the middle of the stalls the cables will reach any vehicle that has a charge port on a corner of the vehicle.

Here I’m charging my R1S in Destin, FL on a V3, the cable easily reaches with me in the normal marked stall.

This is a real thing. BUT, it will be thermally limited. You likely won't get much more than 150kwh for any length of time.

Honestly, the only time this should be a "need" is when you get to a charger location and the only thing left are spots between 2 cars, otherwise just block like normal and be done with it.
We are told to block one, so why be courteous when you don't have to. But all it takes is the one time rolling up and the only open spot is between 2 cars and you are in a crunch making the extension cable worth it. (time is money to me)

That's because the site you're at has center aligned chargers. This is not the norm. Most of the V3 sites I've been to have a right-aligned charger. You have to use the charger for the stall to your left to charge.

It also depend on distance between the lines. It isn't universal or consistent. And, even thought the post is at the center, where the cable is attached to it is actually off center. I've used a spot where the post is at the center, but because of spacing between lines and the post itself being a few feet away (from the furthest point you can pull forward), the cable would not reach unless I encroach on the next space and have my driver side flush with left side of post. Supercharger site layout is less chaotic than EA or EVgo, but still not a case of "seen one, seen them all". Standardization is sorely needed in this industry.

Seems like this might also help with charging while towing? Can have a few more options for angling into the spots.

That's what the extra dollar is going to be used for....solving the cooling problem.
