Well, not really sure what more to say than the videos/pics already say.
I was driving in the straight lane, and someone came out of the right turn lane, cutting me off to make a left turn. I hit the breaks but 8000lbs are hard to stop and hit him.
Police concluded quickly that the guy was an id*** and was 100% at fault. He had his 3 year old daughter in the car trying this maneuver. I had my 3 months old in the backseat. Interestingly the Rivian handled the impact so well, it was barely noticeable. My newborn slept through it… ?
The other guy in his Nissan… not so much. Nobody was injured luckily.
Now the interesting part: My truck performs as if nothing ever happened. All sensors, radars, cameras are seemingly working normally (tested during the remaining 150 mile drive home). It makes me believe the damage is largely cosmetic or that the tow hook took most of the hit.
Question for the insurance and legal experts on here: How do I best go about the diminished value claim, not just the repair? I do want to keep the vehicle. I am insured with Rivian’s Nationwide program, but of course, insurance companies are all the same.
EDIT/UPDATE 8/29/2024: Repair estimate ~6000 USD. Very reasonable in a way... lol
