Multi-factor Drive? Maybe, just maybe, this could be ever so slightly useful to fleet customers? Seems rather ridiculous for consumers. Is there a rampant problem of R1 car thefts or car-jackings? Why was this a priority for the software team?
So, never long term parked in airport garage? No teen drivers? Always park your truck in known trustworthy parking? Never at a trailhead wondering if you have to finish the camping trip with a walk into town?

Went overboard with the MFA. It will be overly tedious and annoying for most. They should have just done a PIN to drive like Tesla…

Nice to add manual battery preconditioning

the mfa looks super convoluted, just give me pin to drive. Not excited about anything in this update. Will patiently wait for the next one. Just give us text messaging, full interior rgb control and V2H already, or maybe something useful like video to the rear screen while driving
Not a fan of MFA. Looks like it's an option you can turn on and off. If that's the case, I'd prefer it be off. I like the current process.

MFA today, a phone call tomorrow.

Me “Hi, can you let me drive my car please?”
Support “Sure, first I need to verify who you are”

20 mins later…

Support “Sorry, I’m unable to assist right now… “our system is down” or “you have unpaid parking tickets” or “your insurance payment is late” or “you sound intoxicated”

Pick your poison here. This is a slippery slope when you are forced to provide additional authentication.

Going to be crossing the country adding on 3000 miles this next week. Looking forward to the update, maybe not MFA.

A massive bunch of meh for me. Still waiting on launch mode for Gen1.

The most useful of the limited improvements would be battery conditioning, which I might be able to really use 1 month out of the year. Most of the rest of the year my battery temps will be at least 70F. So maybe useful for some.

Maybe along with the energy stuff, I could finally have an estimate at battery level at my destination instead of the almost totally worthless DTE.

Charging times will still suck for the trucks compared to Tesla. Thank god I never use my truck to road trip much or to tow longer distances.

I think conditioning the pack might use more energy that you reclaim on the way down unless it is a really big hill. Last time I used a supercharger, even with my pack pretty warm, it consumed 6% of my charge level on the 4 miles to the charger. I would have been better just skipping that charger, slowing down a bit, and I could have made it home. I thought I'd stop to be safe but it wasted a ton of energy. A lot more than my Teslas do to condition before supercharging.
Interesting, my only Tesla is a Highland Model 3. It charges slower than both T and S but due to battery size being much smaller they end up damn close by % to time. For example on Superchargers, last weekend starting at 36% in M3, I got 29kwh in 16 min = 1.8 per minute. Yesterday at 37% in T, I got 55 kwh in 23 min = 2.4 per minute. I love the 3 but for size of vehicle, I believe Rivians hold their own in my experience. I was really hoping the 3 would charge better.

The concept of Multi-factor Drive is a good one. Millions of phones are stolen each year and given it’s the key to your car this feature should provide added protection. How Rivian implements this may be the deciding factor for me.
They should allow you the ability to revoke your phone as a key from the Rivian website in case your phone is stolen and the thief knows where your truck is. I think you can only revoke your phone from the app or in the truck itself which is a catch-22.

Side note to add email as a 2FA method for your Rivian account as well in case your phone is lost and your texts are not accessible from a device other than your phone (like Google Voice).

Video to the rear screen while driving is probably the least useful thing possible…

Perhaps I've seen one too many slasher film scenes where the car won't start as the killer runs towards them, but that Multi-factor step just sounds like a bad idea.

Multi-factor authentication is not for me but yes on the on-demand preconditioning.
Can we just pick what we feel like it’s important rather than get push with everything else?

Can someone explain to me why multi-factor drive is important?

Looking forward to the energy improvements and the on demand battery preconditioning in particular.
Helps prevent replay attacks and stolen vehicles.
