their next vehicle is purportedly the smaller R2, which will also be aimed at EMEA.

Completely agree.

While I can understand they want to compete with Range Rover Defender or AMG EQG, that's not where they need to focus their limited resources.

If anything, it will be an options available for R1S. Not a new product line.

There are lots of midsized SUVs coming from Asia headed to EMEA. If Rivian doesn't get their act together quickly on R2 SUV or CUV, they will be "also ran" option.

Is there a reason to believe that's an R1X as opposed to an R2 variant? Aren't they projecting an R2 announcement at some point in 2023? Maybe my timeline is off, but I would think they'd have already started prototyping for that as well.
