Took my first decently long trip out into the country in my '22 R1T. In my boredom, I couldn't help but wonder how the Gen1 highway assist decides when it's available or not. I was mainly on state routes, much of the time it was 4 lane divided highways with clear lane lines and highway assist would pop up sporadically but only let me use it for like 20-30 seconds. This road was nearly 4 miles of straight like this and I got no highway assist.
The only semi consistent thing I could find was if the next intersection was a "freeway" type with an exit lane and a merge on lane it would work until I passed that. My wife's 2025 Hyundai will try on any road, but isn't the best on back roads or poorly marked roads whereas the Rivian won't even attempt to work.
TL: DR - what is holding back Gen1 from lane keep on most roads?
