Proved Tesla right about what exactly? Tesla is the one using inaccurate and leading terms to describe the capability of their driver assistance system.

That was my question reading this as well. A particularly laughable conclusion in light of the other big thread here about the lawsuits against Tesla for under-delivering on their "self driving" claims.

RJ said in recent interviews that L4 could take until the early 2030s which makes the concern some have of buying an R2 now a moot point unless you are waiting 6+ years for a potential level of autonomy.

We have level 5 autonomy now. Just call an uber or Lyft and you don’t even need to keep your eyes open. The driver will do point to point for you. And it’s a pay as you go service.

Plenty of people want level 3, but it has to work. It doesn't right now, so no one wants a half-assed system. Tesla wasn't right, theirs doesn't work either.

Autonomy means without human drivers.

Tesla failing to achieve L3 was actually 4D chess you guys. Now it’s been proven that no one wants it anyway, so they were right all along not to provide it! Also cameras better than LiDAR if I didn’t mention that.

I think cameras plus LiDAR is the best option, and I would like L4. Don't get me wrong I love both companies (Tesla + Rivian) own 1 of each.
Rivian is making leaps forward catching up to Tesla in the assisted driving realm.
Do you think the LiDAR would help the Tesla vision? I do, it still needs work as well.

Key Points
  • Infrastructure, regulations, and costs delay widespread Level 3/4 deployment until at least 2035.
This is the biggest reason to not wait for R2 Gen 3 IMHO. Regulations will slow down true autonomy

Agree but some people seem intent on denigrating the current R2 and telling people to wait until next year, all because of some potential for L4 sometime in the next 5+ years.

Most people are caught up in the FSD-hype and the tech completely ignoring the regulatory (state and federal) part, let alone will the automaker take full lability when once L4 is legal

Agree and some are keen to spread FUD that somehow the R2 being built this year is half baked and will have massive across the board updates within 12 months the which is ludicrous.
