It’s Rivian software, they probably just didn’t realize they messed it up when changing something else. Don’t worry, the next website update will manage to say the R4 is being released on 12 March for 45000 rupees.

The only way I can think of to avoid these scenarios, given that Rivian is evidently going to launch a robustly featured R2 at a price point well above $45,000, is to simultaneously at launch announce when the $45,000 R2 will ship, and what features, trims, and options will be available at that time.
The site now says that the full lineup and prices will be unveiled on the 12th.

Leasing Model 3 until R3X comes out, but now I have an R2 reservation as well.
I also hate to speculate, but if gas prices continue to spike, because of, you know, that likely bodes well for Rivian et. al., because history.
It’s true. There are two ways to get people to adopt something quickly: the carrot ($7,500 EV tax credit) and the stick (sky high gas prices).

I’m glad I don’t have to worry about the uncertainty of gas prices anymore. Now I need the power company to stop making me subsidize data centers for billionaires. Solar panels here I come.

I can’t wait! The Launch trim will be available first, followed by the high-end trim and the $45K trim. We just don’t know how long it will take to get to those other trims.

That never seems to stop people from buying gas guzzling trucks and suvs. The highest national avg for regular gas in the last ten years was June 2022(just under $5/gal). Market was more constrained by semiconductor shortages at that time. People were paying over sticker.

That is the one tiny silver lining I immediately thought of in this "you know" situation. This will help Rivian during a very critical (if not the fate of the company depends on) launch.

55k dual motor performance long range is 👌
If Rivian can undercut Model Y Perf pricing by $2500, that would be a huge win for customers. Personally I don't see it happening.

Rivian to me seems like a more luxury product, they should charge a premium over Model Y pricing. Customers will pay it. Rivian needs profits!

Thought I remembered hearing about a quote from RJ on a CNBC interview where he states the the RWD/base model might launch only a few months after the initial launch... might have made it up though.

Yep, they have to maintain their adventurous vibe AND make a profit or they’re going nowhere fast. If things go well for the R2 then they can make the even more affordable R3 (not the R3X that’s going to cost you).

I don't see that happening either. Not in this economy. Projected delivery for 2026 is just 25k cars. Times $2500 that's $62.5M loss in revenue. No corporation is going to leave that much on the table. And remember, Rivian is trying to reach net positive revenue ASAP. They also need a lot of capital to expand service. And lack of service availability will hurt reputation (already has) and create long lasting impact on sales.

Hopeful buyers want lowest price possible now. But once they've bought they'll whine about lack of service. Rivian has to turn a healthy profit in order to create a success story.

This assumes that consumers have no price sensitivity. By that logic, why not price it at $60k? Add another $2,500 per vehicle, and don't leave another $62.5M in revenue on the table!

We'll all find out on 3/12 what they've assumed won't we? My point is, based on the business challenges Rivian is facing (whether it's economic climate, inflation, or govt. policy), the math suggest they can't afford to undercut—if they want to be net positive ASAP and have enough $ to rapidly expand/improve service availability.

Besides, Tesla's reputation is so damaged I don't think any brand needs to or feel compelled to undercut in order to sell. They just have to deliver a good product and product experience (which includes service). All of this should already be self-evident to anyone here.

That is exactly what the Launch Ed should be priced at...$59,990. Slightly above the competition, for a more premium product.

Keep in mind the "juniper" Model Y Launch Ed was $60k. It was a non-Perf Model Y with fsd, wheels, paint, accel boost standard.
