I didn't scan the comments to see if this has been discussed yet but do any other Gen 1 owners feel like we are being cast aside like last year's iPhone?
They fixed the issues we had in Gen 2 but how about those of us that own Gen 1 trucks and are still faithfully making payments? No tank turn was bad but never fixing our horrible charging pads is just plain mean! Rivian made their tri-motor as quick as our top of the line Gen 1 quad? Ouch! New motors made in house so never a thought to making our measly Bosch motors just a bit peppier or go forbid, allowing those of us with performance tires to at least have the option to get a better top speed than the , gag, CyberTruck? We were the ones that stuck by Rivian, that waited years to get our trucks. Literally, (now is the literal time to use literally, kids), some of us waited YEARS! I waited `18 months. The power bed cover works great now, I hear I wouldn't know. Are these minor issues with a truck that is still great? Perhaps, no, probably, but they are fair complaints. Where is the reciprocity for the loyalty we have shown Rivian and still show. I guarantee most Gen 1 owners have reserved their next Rivian. But, the fact remains that we are not getting everything we paid for and that means something to me, it should mean something to RJ and everyone that works at Rivian. We are you and we are why you are still making the great vehicles you do.

Yes..the dead end of the gen 1 is frustrating but the savings of $25k to $50k helps me sleep a little better.
Likewise. But for me, $79k out the door is still a big chunk of change. I do OK but i still have to finance my cars. It is the most expensive car I've bought to date.

This again?

Have software updates stopped? Have they said they're stopping software development, with a date? No, they haven't.

In fact, they said:
  • Launch mode is coming
  • Google AI assistant, along with text messaging is coming
  • Service menu will s00n include ability to clear codes after DIY replacement of 12V battery or batteries
Who knows what else they have in store? Plus, give yourself a reality check and revisit release notes of every OTA thus far. Googlecasting. Tire Swap. Google-based navigation. ABRP-infused nav routing. Battery pre-conditioning. Multiple tries to improve proximity key. Multiple versions and improvements to the mobile app, including live camera views. Have you taken all that for granted? Current state of gen 1 is already quite different from when deliveries first began. Name brands who have evolved their product as much, and provided as many updates once their owners have taken delivery? There's probably only 1, Tesla.

The transition from Bosch to in-house is inevitable. Off-the-shelf Bosch motors allowed them to get to market, instead of being yet-another EV vaporware brand. In-house motors means vertical integration, which means better profit margins. It means not having to pay retail prices to an outside vendor who isn't beholden to Rivian's priorities or needs. It means a more profitable Rivian, who can secure better financial future... and stick around to service your gen 1 and continue to employ developers to write and test new software updates for it.

Another reality check. Planned obsolescence is always a thing. No matter what you buy and especially so for a BEV that is heavily defined by software and subject to pace of technological evolution. Just like any smartphone or computer you buy. This is the big difference between cars from pure EV companies and legacy auto. With legacy auto, the car you buy is exactly the same one, feature-for-feature, 10+ years later when the new generation is announced. With pure EV companies, development never stops and changes happen fast—get used to it. Gen 2 started shipping June of '24. And just last December, at Autonomy Day, some Gen 2 owners are already moaning about mention of LiDAR (and gen 3). That's how fast things move. Yes, get used to it.

If you can't handle FOMO and want the latest and greatest, there is a path, upgrade to newer model year.

I could go through the petty complaints one by one, but it would be even more exhausting than what I already just had to read. The short explanation is that if you feel like you were shafted, you have expectations that were probably not realistic from the beginning and you would likely keep moving the goal post further even if these completely minor "issues" were addressed.

You think Rivian shouldn't make improvements on their products? Would that make you feel better?

Planned obsolescence after 3 years? What's that work out to a year on a $100k car?
Launch mode? oh yay, that super helpful said nobody, ever.
None of those rationalizations even touch anything I mentioned
Perhaps Google AI is meaningful to someone that drives a car for it's ability to compute but it means little to people that buy a car to drive...

The "car" is more like a computer. And, yes, computers do become "outdated" after 3 years.

Ok, you win. Your car is totaled. Get rid of it. Good bye and good riddance.

So sorry you were forced to read my comments My expectations are unreasonable to ask for the things the truck was advertised as having? I'll bet when Rivian raised the price on the Adventure, you were one of the ones that just silently took it, rather than cancelling the order, weren't you? I wasn't. You're welcome.

I’m one of those rare lucky ones that got to purchase a Gen1 at full price!

I've always said EVs are laptops with wheels. Technology keeps moving ahead.

Most vehicles are on 4 year refresh cycle, EVs and ICE.

Gen 1 is not obsolete or neglected. No need to compromise newer technologies in gen 2 vehicle by only providing what gen 1 HW can do.

Gen 1 R1 vehicles have much more capabilities and features than when they were delivered and released originally. My 2023 gen 1 R1S is better today than when I bought it. Is it as able as gen 2 - no. Its older, I don't expect it to be.

Eh? That’s not true. My Ford ICE truck got significant UI and software updates in the years after I bought it. Same for legacy EVs. A lot of what you write seems just made up.
