Even though my WiFi router is fairly close it has a pretty low 5ghz signal in the driveway. At the same location the charger does not have any problem connecting to WiFi but it by default connects to 2.4 ghz. Unfortunately my xfinity router does not allow you to separately name 2.4 and 5 so when you select it on the car it defaults to trying to connect to the 5 ghz band and even if it fails it will lot attempt the 2.4 which has plenty of signal strength Mobile service had no solution. I found no setting that would force the car to only look for the 2.4 GHz band

I’m getting my new Rivian this weekend (coming off of a Lucid Air). Is the WiFi connection needed for updates? If yes and if thatā€˜s the only reason for the WiFi connection, one thing you can do is use your phone as a WiFi hotspot.

Comcast is scum.

Range extenders suck for a lot of things, but one might be just what you need since the truck doesn't need low latency or high bandwidth.

As a proud Comcast hater going back 30 years, I would get your own router that will allow you to separate the networks like literally every other router for sale. Thank you for nothing, ComcastšŸ˜’

Could be sitting on your hotspot for a while. It's been 3 weeks and I still haven't seen the latest update and I have Connect+.

Look at a mesh system for larger reach
May be more expensive than an extender but they work great
Currently using a Deco mesh

These are a good solution where there is a need for speed. I like that my R1T is fast but it doesn't require fast Internet access. $350 for a mesh vs $13 for a 2.4/5g extender made this an obvious choice. If the extender hadn't worked I would have returned it and spent the $350, but surprisingly it works great for this application.

2025.38 was just released to the public on Tuesday. We will likely start to see the heavier initial waves of updates to C+ subscribers today/tomorrow.

Yep definitely not for everyone and I’ll add ā€œif you are starting from scratch with no equipment and wanting widespread seamless coverageā€

I concure, I use both the Google Mesh and the Ubiquity Mesh, which allows as many Access Points as you want...

No, updates will come over the built in LTE, obviously slower but still works if you have cell coverage in the R1. Updates seems to be around 3GB or so according to my router traffic.

Thanks. Then why does it need to connect to WiFi?
