So I had a little ding on my rear passenger door, repair now unto $11,500 from original quote of $8500. The authorized Rivian body shop sates that Rivian is not supplying them with the needed parts as they are "back ordered" ? In the meantime my insurance is no longer paying the rent a car fee which are around $500/week. My car has been in the body shop for one month!!! It really sucks as I am also paying my $1200k lease with no car to drive. Any suggestions?

For a "little ding" I would ask if PDR is an option. Much simpler solution, with satisfactory results possible.

I just had $10,000 worth of hail repair done. Parts were ordered and received within six days no problem with Rivian here.

Same thing happened to me in 2023 at Precision Auto in Oregon. I just had to keep waiting…took 50 days despite paying a parts deposit up front, waiting for the parts to arrive, and them assuring me they had the parts prior to me dropping off the truck.

Some repair facilities absolutely suck at customer service, and it sounds like you got one of those too. Best advice is just pay for a rental and admit that you’re kind of screwed. Once I finally let it go and accepted the situation, it felt a lot better than being angry every day.

So the repair shop told me Rivian themselves is having issues sourcing the part which is a large aluminum molding that is a one time use part as there is no way to take it off without damaging it. They had to take it off in order o properly paint the car. They showed me the order they placed to Rivian on Sept 3 and they are still waiting for the part. I have asked Rivian if they will provide me a loaner they are looking into it.

Your body shop doesn't know what they are doing or they don't care. They should have known that part was a one time use part and delayed you dropping the vehicle off if the repair was cosmetic only.

They knew exactly what they were doing the car was undrivable as the door would not close! They ordered the part the day they got the vehicle what they didn't expect was such a long delay from Rivian, What would your suggestion have been given the car needed to be towed to the body shop as it was undrivable? Enlighten me!

Your original post said "a little ding in the rear door". Your post didn't indicate that the vehicle wasn't able to be driven. I also said "if the repair was cosmetic only", so I'd expect you to read my full post, I guess. Are you enlightened now?
I am, oh great one thank you for passing on the sacred knowledge on to me. As a poor peasant toiling day and night by the body shop waiting for my part to arrive, I am so thankful to you for the blessing of knowledge you bestow upon me, as what am I but a poor humble stranger amongst the enlightened ones her on the forum.

I would look for a used door or whatever part you need. There are several on Ebay and salvage yards. With a little luck you may be able to find one that doesn't even need to be painted. As for driving your car, you can engage the door switch manually and it can be driven.

You probably would’ve gotten more accurate advice had you not lead off with it’s only a little ding when in reality the door is so damaged it won’t close. Your choices are simple - keep renting at $500/week for the foreseeable future or buy a cheap used car to drive and hopefully sell for roughly the same amount.
