Hi Ryan, not sure if you saw it, but the guys on RivianStories had a guy on (Jeff?), I think in NJ. He had a beach pass to drive on the beach and Rivian allowed it and met him there.

Also, since your CS stated that your "guide will answer any and all off-roading questions". Since to date, I can't get Rivian to answer tons of simple questions...could you ask, as to the Off-Road package, which specific plates does it actually add to the underbody? It seems no one has really taken any quality pictures of the underbody. I think the off-road pk consists of maybe 3-4 plates in total at the front and rear, but it would be wonderful if Rivian would actually tell us.

Enjoy your day and Happy Birthday!
@BigE off-road protection plates, you got it. I'm gonna shoot video of the whole thing so I'll be sure to get some solid shots of the underbody shield plates...assuming our Test Drive Truck has that option.

Thanks man, it's gonna be an awesome day! ?✌❤⚡??

Anyone here have experience driving an R1T?

I'm asking because I have ZERO time behind the wheel of any EV (including R1T) - and I'm wondering if there's a "have to get used to it" break-in period on either the breaking or the acceleration aspect of driving it.

Anything you'd recommend I watch out for before taking off ?

I have driven an EV for a couple years and had my 1st mile yesterday. I don't think you will have much of a transition. Initial speed/torque is a surprise on EV's, but that's easy to adjust to.

One pedal driving takes a little getting use to, but y’all have it down in a few miles.

The part that was most different for me was the braking. When you lift off the go pedal, you start slowing done much more aggressively than an ICE car. I made myself carsick the first few days getting the hang of it when I got my EV 3 years ago.

@Rhidan I could put in both my wife's Skis and my Snowboard and list the lengths for each...we haven't been up to Stevens in several seasons but great info to have regardless. I will say that my wife's Skis are on the short/learner side and I'm 6',4", pretty sure my board is somewhere between 163-165ish.

Trying to determine if you would want/need the racks or not?!? ?

Can you post if they also have the EXP models for the event? I would like to get a first person report of that build.

Thanks

It's just 1-on-1 drives with a single truck. Not really an event.

If you do the 40 minute mobile test drive does that waive your ability to return the vehicle after 1 week or 1000 miles? What about the first drive events?

Doubt it because you're not driving the exact vehicle you are purchasing. The return policy applies to the latter.

First time seeing the vehicle in person, got giddy when I saw her rolling down our hill. She's a beauty.

My husband's 177s in a ski bag fit comfortably on the diagonal. A longer set would probably still fit fine but might need to be diagonal in the vertical direction too:

Not pictured, my 164 snowboard comfortably in the gear tunnel with a bit of room to spare.

Tonneau was locked out.

Tow hitch cover was easy to remove with the keys in my pocket.

This vehicle is LE w/ offroad. Still not entirely clear which bits of the underbody shield are related to the off-road package. The guy who did our test drive seemed pretty sure the whole underbody plate was reinforced compared to the not-off-road configuration. ?‍♂

Nothing else really new to add. Absolutely fun to drive. Throttle response and feel was great especially compared to our ID.4. Not sure I even had to touch the brake pedal, but none of the jerky see-saw feel the Volt used to give us (and the ID.4 to a lesser degree) -- regen on throttle lift, even in high mode, was very natural feeling.

Roads were wet. We each floored it as hard as we were comfortable with getting onto the highway. Felt fast af, no wheel spin, very controlled, and all of us couldn't believe there was more travel to that pedal. We had some fun on the speed bumps, pot holes, and puddles. Who even needs to demo off road with such a wide array of on-road obstacles?

Despite our objections, the gentleman declined our offer to call him an Uber and did not leave the Rivian and the keys with us.

And did I mention she's gorgeous?

Thanks for sharing @timesinks !!!

Can you confirm how much time you had with the Rivian? It seems like it's about 45 minutes. Do I have that about right?

So excited.... for you... and others.... and me to finally get to experience this amazing vehicle!

We had a 10am appointment and the guy rolled up about 10 minutes early. We ran over about 5 minutes, so basically got a full hour with it. Did not feel rushed at all.
