Ford is probably a buy just because their revenue will increase based on their investment in Rivian. It's like Tesla killing a quarter because of their investment in Dogecoin and not on their production of vehicles.

So the question is, if I sell enough of my RIVN stock today to cover the initial investment, do I still need to transfer the money in to clear in T-2?

Not sure. I'm sure you can call and ask. If you aren't familiar though, it takes a couple of trading days for a trade to "settle" so even though you will show the money in your account and you will have that amount of purchasing power for other stocks, it isn't "real" cash until 2 days after the sale usually.

I guess I’ll find out. I expressed the interest in that number a week or so ago and it did subtract from my account balance but I suppose they could not fulfill them all at open.
I was only allocated 47 shares through SOFI out of the 129 requested.

From the Jim Cramer Investing Club e-mail just sent:

  • Rivian comes at $78… let’s see whether it will be worth more than Ford or GM... at $90 it is equal to Ford and at $100 it is GM... this is killing TSLA)... will expand production with proceeds... Ford 12% will they sell.... Amazon—20% will buy all vehicles they can... All EVs opening down as investors raise money to take in Rivian

Not at all. The price of a stock is a forward looking valuation. Investors have priced in Tesla earnings 5+ years out forever...and it's just how it's done. You can't look at today's performance to value a growth stock because you will always miss the boat. It's high risk, yeah, but it's not beanie baby logic...I'm not even sure what that means lol.

Totally agree that Rivian > Tesla especially when comparing RJ to Elon he wins the hard working family man award. That said, you’re using beanie baby logic to justify the value.

They let them ring the bell from the plant in Normal, IL. Tried to get a screenshot, but missed it.

Because they are holding it until they are ready for it to start trading. Rumor is around 11am. Once it starts trading it could also hold if it triggers limits by climbing or falling too fast

And as a side note, I've seen several people saying they would like to buy RIVN shares below the IPO price. "If I can get it at $55-60" they are saying. But folks this is not how this will work. It's highly unlikely you ever see RIVN at $78. When the market finally opens today it might be over $100 a share. For more on what to expect, take a look at the official IPO price of SNOW, ABNB, or DASH. And then take a look at what their first trades on the market traded at.
Those have all done well long term, but they all fell below IPO price within the first year of trading.

ABNB fell 20% below IPO within its first first month, then picked up and hasn’t fallen below IPO since

DASH went on an initial tear and then fell to 50% of IPO value 7 months later. It’s well up again.

SNOW also fell below IPO 7 months later, with some massive gains in between.

Sitting it out isn’t a bad strategy if people wait and don’t FOMO in if the stock surges. There will definitely be a small sell off 6 months from today when employees are able to sell stock —their salaries are heavily tied to stock compensation and living in California isn’t cheap.

Disclosure: I’m in for 100 now. Hoping to buy more, lower, later.

Edit: Apparently my numbers are all based on opening day *closing price* and not the IPO price. The IPO prices may have been, or were, lower. You decide what that means to you.
