Lots of correct points here. Not to be a broken record (I made the same point earlier) I compare this to the Airbnb IPO. It had a DSP and it priced the IPO at $68 and it opened at 1pm or so in the afternoon at $146. It dumped a little to $130 and everyone was "oh, I'll buy when it drops to $50" ... yea it never went any lower and it sits around $200 now.
Same logic as saying the guy at your poker table got a royal flush a few hands ago so you’re hot for a royal flush this hand. Could it happen? Sure, but the odds are against it. The “deal” here is when comparing the value to Tesla but most logical folks also realize TSLA is overvalued…

Cramer (which I, like many others think can often be full of BS) is on CNBC right now making the argument that a lot of the Tesla drop is not just from Elon's stock sale threat, but from people moving money to Rivian saying "most people don't jus have $10k lying around in cash that they can use to pay for an IPO opportunity so they need to get it somewhere. If you are an electric car enthusiast and need money for Rivian, you sell your Tesla"

Hi,

Can someone explain why an IPO wouldn't start at the opening bell? I know there is a reason, just not sure what it is.

Thanks

Except the odds are greater it will happen than won’t happen. Why? The IPO is oversubscribed by a lot as evidenced by the price increases. The market looks favorably on disruptors, first movers and EV makers right now. Rivian has a leadership that appears to be singularly focused on the company, not starting Twitter feuds.

I was wrong about Musk and Tesla and I can admit that, but I always wondered what Tesla would be had he taken all the energy he poured in to Twitter and either reinvested that in quality or in being a father to his children, neither of which he has exactly excelled at.

Haha. I heard that. Look, I want Rivian to be #1 and they seem like the *good* guy at least compared to Elon but we’re in the 2006 of basing home value on what the neighbors just sold for. I’m kicking myself for not buying a truckload of Ford two weeks ago.

That's nutty.

Am I the only one thinking of short term IPO gains in terms of accessories for my R1? Thinking maybe a Limestone paint job is in the realm of possibility although a camp kitchen would be pretty awesome!

Just hoping I don't end up with a downgrade from Adventure to Explore....

Totally agree that Rivian > Tesla especially when comparing RJ to Elon he wins the hard working family man award. That said, you’re using beanie baby logic to justify the value.

Yea, Ford is a good buy I think. The electric F150 looks VERY good and I am not a pickup truck guy (I have an R1S on order). I think they will sell a TON of them

They look good. I hope I get Rivian before Lightning hits the streets or I may jump ship. I actually plan on using the truck for farm use so I’m more excited for a HD version that can tow a tractor but that’s probably 10 years out.
