I'd be curious how fast that car would charge at some of the new CCS stations that are 600A rated.

Curious about longevity of the battery and safety;. But safe to say China is competing pretty aggressively in the EV market. They're way ahead of the US in a lot of metrics already, it seems

Neato but its also 400kw charging which doesn't exist in the USA. Current political climate just handicapped potential expansion of high powered chargers too.
No argument here.

I just posted to show even before solid state batteries people are working on lowering charge times.

They are using LFP in that battery and it was over 350 amps past 80%. If Rivian could hold 350 amps that long on a large pack they could go 20-80% in around 10 minutes.

To me that is the magic number for broader EV conversion. It also would nearly triple the number of charge sessions a site is capable of.

US is cooked from a policy, technology, and supply chain pov in the EV market if we dont get our s#!t together.
Just like we thought OpenAI, DeepMind, Anthropic, etc were several years ahead of the world until DeepSeek, Tesla's/US lead is shrinking if not already gone.

^^^ This. We do not need higher powered charging stations, we need better charging curves and they are coming fast from CATL. Even an energy hog like the Rivian (I say that with love) running a Max Pack will go from 10% - 80% in under 17 minutes if it can sustain a 350kw rate like this LFP pack from CATL.

Watched the video earlier today and it's freaking impressive all around. The cell chemistry allowing that C-rate, the cooling system for the battery remaining seemingly neutral throughout and the fact the dispenser stayed cool during the nearly 700amp 700volt charge session.

Having been to China, they can produce a lot of knock off crap, but in other areas, they are clearly industry leaders and this is proof of the latter.

Meanwhile, I’ve learned how to embrace longer charges by considering the charging station as a mini-destination. Plug in, find somewhere to have a pee, take the dog for a walk, buy a coffee… The car is charged by the time I get back to it, and the process has cost me no dead time at all. The only situation in which this hasn’t worked entirely was on a road trip when we needed to stop more than twice in a single day. Then I had to pull out my iPad and read the news, which I would probably have done anyway at the final destination.

It will just force people (companies) to find another way without as much government money. I was hoping the incoming admin was going to move more to the center with policies but it looks like certain things are going to go too far to the right. It seems like that is our only choices lately (far left or far right).

I'm the same way. Had parents that were very "Gotta make good time" oriented. I let that stress go, and don't mind the charging stops. Had as many as 5 in a day and it's not great.

The exception is when I had to make a "bonzai" run 600mi away for a sick relative. Each charging stop was agonizingly long due to the outside stress of the situation. Would have liked to have had these steep charging curves talked about here, then.

People always say this but no one ever behaved this way with a gas vehicle. When we have fast charging and self driving, then I think it will go back to the old way again.

I agree, which is why I don't mind current charging times. The time difference over 1K miles is less than 2 hours between my Rivian and ICE and that time is spent keeping me more relaxed when I get to my destination.

This is interesting. Thanks for posting. What if battery capacity increases? If we go from 300 miles to 1,000; that would reduce the need for frequent charging.

Inhabitants read that one Chinese company had solved building an Ion battery based on Silicon, and another company based on Aluminum. I wonder if this is one of those?
