Zero real world value. No one needs "eyes-off" technology. "FSD" should be a feature intended solely for mobility of non-able bodied people, not as a gimmick.
If a car can really drive itself safely, to the point that people can text, it’ll have a lot of value to a lot of people

If you're unable to drive a car, you shouldn't own one. if you're in a car, drive it. You don't need to text or scroll the internet every minute . if you need to get some place, but you need to text maybe take an uber.

While the tech is cool, it totally unnecessary and just a gimmick and parlor trick. having your eyes on the road, even if autonomy is doing most the work is a GREAT safety net for the unknown.

You can pontificate, or you can see what people really want to do and make technology for it

This isn't about what people want, this is about making tech that excites wall-street.

as maybe said by Henry Ford "if you asked people what they wanted, they would have asked for faster horses"

The fact of the matter is that many people are terrible drivers. I see all sorts of appalling behaviors by my fellow motorists daily, including lane deviation, going way too fast or slow for conditions, and texting or eating while driving not to mention all the elderly or disabled people that have to overcome limitations to drive.

We can't have all these people stay home; that isn't realistic. Uber is also expensive for those of us living in rural areas. Right now, this technology isn't where it needs to be to replace human drivers, but eventually, this will make driving safer for all of us. Once self driving gets to the point where it's better than the average human accidents will go down.

It's also worth noting that I used driver+ on the freeway yesterday and went to change lanes, and the truck cut across two lanes of traffic before settling on the left lane. It was clear, and I was paying attention, so I let the car do its thing out of curiosity, but that's not good.
That is odd....and unfortunate. I am sure they will improve that behavior with time.

I agree, advancements in tech, like all before it from the seatbelt to ABS to Airbags, etc.. make cars safer. These have always been in addition to the human. now the Human is the assistant to the tech and it takes away from driving. If you're not going to drive, why waste all this money on a depreciating asset + insurance etc..

Hands free (aka Bluecruise or super cruise ) highways is the perfect level of autonomy.
FSD would give those with disabilities the freedom of non-assisted mobility, providing quality of life improvements.
Eye-free driving that is proposed in this new Rivian tech doesn't benefit anyone, maybe gets wall-street excited as the possibility of being applied in other applications, it give the "driver" a reason to be distracted.

my point about stay home or uber was strictly reply to the user saying it would allow people to text now. Put the phone the F**k down.

If this is true, it makes me lose a bit of confidence about RJ. Just don't see it happening. I just hope it doesn't get to Musk levels of overpromising...
