Rivian HANDS FREE ADVANCED DRIVER ASSISTANCE SYSTEM is coming 2025 + EYES OFF SYSTEM in 2026 -- Per CEO RJ SCARINGE

Source: RJ speaking at new San Francisco space opening

RJ says the gen 2 lightbar will change color when the car is driving autonomously, to let others know. Pretty good idea!

Interesting development! Wonder if this will cause Gen 1 owners to upgrade to Gen 2

Yeah. We've heard this song and dance before. Don't count on that timeline or feature set.

I'll believe it when I see it. And an eyes-off system...good luck. Only Mercedes even has an SAE Level 3 system right now and it's not available in the USA yet...and even then it's extremely limited in where it can be used. Remember, Rivian also sold the Gen1 with claims that its hardware was capable of eyes-off (SAE Level 3) operation. That is clearly never happening. Hell, if Gen1 even gets lane-centering on non-mapped roads I'd be shocked. I doubt even Gen2 will get that capability despite most people wanting it.

It's also worth noting that I used driver+ on the freeway yesterday and went to change lanes, and the truck cut across two lanes of traffic before settling on the left lane. It was clear, and I was paying attention, so I let the car do its thing out of curiosity, but that's not good.

Meh....good for people that care, I guess. I like to drive myself...less stressful than waiting for a machine to fail.

Zero real world value. No one needs "eyes-off" technology. "FSD" should be a feature intended solely for mobility of non-able bodied people, not as a gimmick.
